Ethelyne M. (Crowder) McElroy, 92, died peacefully January 1. She had a cheerful disposition and unwavering devotion to her family. She was born February 19, 1919 in White House, Tenn. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John H. McElroy of Murfreesboro, Tenn. in 1986. They moved to Akron in 1941 and worked for Goodyear. She was an avid homemaker and Amway distributor. She was a member of the West Side Church of Christ. Survivors include her children: R. Douglas (Sylvia) McElroy of Somerset, Ky., Susan (Gary) Shelt of Stuart, Fla., and Nancy Gibbs Berry (Jerry) of Akron; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 7 from 9 to 11 a.m., with funeral service to follow at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of V.N.S., 3358 Ridgewood Drive, Akron 44333 or West Side Church of Christ, 645 N. Revere Rd., Akron 44333.

Nancy, Sue and Doug,

So sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I have good memories of growing up on Knollwood and having your mother always in the kitchen or canning veggies in the garage. My biggest surprise after years of not seeing the family was having your mother and Nancy show up at dad's funeral. I really appreciated that.
May you find peace, strength, and comfort in your memories. My deepest sympathy to you.
