Ronald Torsky Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 15, 2024.
Ronald Edward Torsky, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died October 31, 2024, after a long battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judi Piccolo-Torsky, his daughter Lara and son Travis, daughter-in-law Andrea, grandson Gus, brother John, sister-in-law Karen, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his daughter Gwen and sister Roberta.

Ron, born in Plainfield, N.J., on December 21, 1954, moved to Califon 41 years ago and embraced small town life. He served as a town councilman and as a member of the recreation board. He helped establish the annual town tree lighting program and brought "Movies at the School" to the elementary school. He helped secure the current Borough Hall and had a hand in the building of the playground.

Ron, who was known by many nicknames, including "Ronaldo", "Rotney" and "Kron," was the owner of Academy Rigging and Moving for over 20 years.

A man of many talents with a tremendous sense of humor, he was always willing to pitch in when family, friends and, really, anyone, needed a helping hand. Ron embraced many facets of life. He loved fishing in the Raritan River, listening to music, cooking, taking photographs and entertaining. He had 15 minutes of fame in 1980 when he won $1900 and a television, partnered with actress Joanne Worley, on the game show "The $20,000 Pyramid."

A memorial service will be held on December 14, 2024, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Califon Fire House, located at 41 Main Street, Califon NJ 07830. To send condolences to the family please visit www.martinfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to WXPN, WFUV, or Radio Woodstock, a few of Ron's favorite independent radio stations.

December 9, 2024

My cousin Ronald, who I grew up with him and his brother John. My brother Gary and I knew them from as early as we could remember. We spent countless days together from early years through our early twenties. We sleigh rode together with his brother John on the Scotch Plains Golf Course at 19 years old. We laughed and cried together. Camped together outside their house complete with electricity, refrigerator, et al. WE grew up together and I have fond memories of Ron's sense of family and love for all. He was always a friend to everyone. A cheerful hello and conversation to follow. From playing baseball, football in their backyard with my brother, him and john, to basketball and softball. I have nothing but love and family for my cousins Ron and John.
Ron will be missed but treasured to have known him. John Buyachek
