I was shocked to hear of Claudette's passing and now Ron. I played hockey with Ron at RMC and we shared some fun times together during those years; he was a great gentleman and they were a wonderful couple that Margot and I had a chance to meet on a few occssions during our RMC days and later. Our condolences to the family.

Ronald Paul and Eric!
Ron and I attended CMR and RMC together.
I remember you as young boys during 1973 and 1974 when we were neighbours of your Mom and Dad in Thornehill ON.
Perhaps the thing thing that struck me most about your Dad was his humility. In '74, prior to departing the Canadian Forces Staff College as grads, Ron learned of his promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel. That evening, we sat on our patio drinking a nightcap. Ron was quite upset as he tried to grapple with his new rank - he was most concerned that his peers would look at his promotion as being earned solely because he was a Francophone. It took a number of hours and many beers to convince him that his new rank was most deserved because he was so much better than the rest of us.
Ron was one of the great ones.
His loss brought tears to my eyes

Like so many of Ron's CMR/RMC classmates, I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. From the moment we met as roommates in our recruit year I realized this was someone special; everyone that came to know him felt the same way. The Class of ’64 mourns his loss.

My sincere sympathies on your loss. Ron was a fine officer and true gentleman with a quiet charisma reminiscent of Jean Beliveau. He died far too young and will be missed.

I worked with Ron for several years at GPC in Ottawa. I think the words that described him best in those days would be "gentleman" (because he always was, no matter what) and "proud family man" (because he always spoke about his wife, children and grandchildren with great warmth and pride).
I am happy that I had the opportunity to know him a bit. To his family -- I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a lovely man.

Ron gave real meaning to the phrase "an officer and a gentleman" because he was the best of both. In the enclosed photo, A/C Len Birchall has just presented Ron with his pilot wings and the RMC Sword of Honour, that institution's highest award -- which those who served with him will agree was well merited. This presentation took place in Moose Jaw, 30 May 1965.

The sad news of Ron's passing brought tears to my eyes. As a classmate of his at CMR and RMC I knew Ron as a friend and respected him as a true "gentleman", of which there are far too few in the world. My sincere condolences go out to his family. Ron will be missed by all who knew him.
