Ronald Zehel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 14, 2016.
Ronald Michael Zehel, 49, born on November 23, 1966 in Lorain, Ohio passed away August 14, 2016. He resided in Palm Springs, CA at the time of his passing. Born and raised in Lorain, Ohio, Ron graduated from Lorain Catholic High School in 1985 and continued his education at Ohio State University in Columbus. Ron lived in The Netherlands for twelve years and became fluent in the Dutch language. His love of reading led him to a position as department manager at 'The American Bookstore,' Den Haag and Amsterdam. He returned to the United States and lived in Palm Springs, CA for the past four years. The influence of Ron's parents was always evident in his love for music. Ron is survived by his parents, Peggy A. Zehel and Ronald W. Zehel of Palm Desert, CA, his sister, Lindsey Zehel of Portland, OR, Aunt and Uncle John and Marie Casper of Mission Viejo, CA, Aunt Joan Teli of Charlotte, NC, Aunt Phyllis Smith of Lorain, OH, and many beloved cousins and friends. Preceding Ron in death are maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Andrew and Helen Doraski and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. William and Phyllis Zehel. 'SHAPED BY THE RIVER' - WRITTEN BY RONALD MICHAEL ZEHEL: Set your souls adrift on the river of life. Open your eyes and see it flow by. Be youself and find your current. All pour ourselves into the Sea of Truth. We are all one, together in the same river, guided seaward by the love of the Absolute. One is all and all is one, and we are all simply drifting homeward. In the river we are one, shaped by Truth to become who we are. Formed by currents not of our making, all we encounter is meant to be. Look inward and see the message which was implanted at the river's source. Be who you are, your life's the message, all different and somehow the same. The river forms you without your knowledge, exposing and shaping your soul with every curve and bend. Use the river, it's meant to guide you. Swim with certainty, reach out to those who flounder. Open outwards and be the river, for it is us and we are it. Encompass others in you, sharing souls our hearts entwine. Love the hand that guides you downstream, feel the warmth of knowing what is to be. As the river gathers force, prepare your soul as it enters the mouth. Flow with confidence from the river to the sea, you have been here all along. For who were you before you were?

I just learned of Ron's passing.
Though I only knew him ever so briefly, I will never forget him.
I met him when he was very young and just finding himself. I believe that he lived on Queen Anne and he had a moped. I remember once giving him a ride and putting the moped in my trunk! I later ran into him at L.C.C.C.That would be the last time I ever saw him.
I always knew he was so special of a person and would make the best of his life. I believe that back then he wanted to be a dentist or dermatologist.
I'm so saddened though I barely new him.
Much peace to your family and as Ron's poem said, "We will all end up at the mouth of the river ".

I'm so sorry for your terrible loss.
Ron and I were best buddies in Cols.,OH. during the 80's. We stayed in touch and close through his move to Amsterdam.
We loved each other as friends; he was so really genuinely sweet to me; we shared everything, and we were joined at the hip. We were like brothers with tremendous respect for each other. Never an argument.
Ron spoke often of his parents, and little sister, all of whom he loved very much. Ron confided in me often.
Ron took me to my first AA meeting as I was afraid. Ron was a happy person, quiet, but, open with me. His beautiful smile, and darkly handsome eyes, and his laugh. We both liked sci-fi, gym. Ron was always in excellent physical shape.
Ron brought a lot of beauty, light, kindness and joy into this world! He was known and liked by many!
I am so grateful that I knew Ron; he was extremely special.
I know my life is blessed because of Ron and I will always have only wonderful memories of him.
And I know he remembers me fondly also.

What a waste of talent at this early age of 49 years.
I and the whole American Book Center family shall miss you badly.
Only the fond memories and the honor of having worked with you will remain. You were the embodiment of a gentle and lovely character in a big and athletic body. Rest in peace dear Ron.

Dear friends and family of Ron,

We, his former colleagues at the American Book Center, were shocked to hear that Ron had died so suddenly. Our hearts go out to all of you who have lost a very special person. We know Ron as a very kind and gentle soul and an excellent buyer of the sci-fi department. We enjoyed working with him very much. And even though we said our goodbye's a couple of years ago, we will miss him dearly.

Dear Aunt Peggy, Uncle Ron, and Lindsay,

This is such sad news and we are truly sorry for your loss. There is a better place that in faith we trust will come after this life; a place where pain and suffering will no longer exist and souls are free. That is where we hope Ron has travelled on his river....to contentment and peace in The presence of Jesus. Know that prayers are sent for your comfort in the happy memories carried in your hearts.
Love and Sympathy,
Ron and Gloria
