Ronnie (Ron) Matthew Strank September 6, 1954 - May 11, 2018 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ron announce his untimely passing at the age of 63. Ron was born September 6, 1954 in Abbotsford, B.C. but grew up in the Winnipeg area and since 1980 had lived in Edmonton. Ron is survived by his two sons Jason and Jeffrey and grandson, Smith. He also leaves his siblings, Bill Wonder (Diane), Cheryl McLean and Gayleen Hiebert (Alvin) along with many nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his father, Matt; his mother, Gwen and his brother, Bob Wonder.

Ron spent many winters on the Big Island, Hawaii. For the past number of years Ron had been heavily involved in Edmonton Pickleball Association. He was a member of the Hash House Harriers Running Club. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and loved to dance! There are several festivals who will miss his volunteer hours.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 22 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club, 9450 Groat Rd NW, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ron's name to the Mental Health Foundation: www.mentalhealthfoundation.ca.

I did not have the chance to meet Ron myself, but my 12 year old did just shortly before his passing. I wish I had the opportunity to thank him for the incredible impact he made on my son, Logan, in such a short time. Sending prayers to his family for many blessings and hoping comfort is found knowing he was not only loved but truly left an impression on old friends and new friends, even the young ones. My son will cherish every moment Ron spent mentoring and teaching him for the rest of his life.

Jason and Jeff I am so sorry for your loss. I have no words to express how sorry I am for your family. Ron was so kind, always made sure that everyone was included. He was always dancing, as he would say, "It would be a shame to waste a good song" You are missed Ron.

Sending our love and condolences to the family. Although we are miles apart and didn't see each other that often, when our families did get together we always had lots of fun! I still and always will treasure those wonderful memories; the last one being our Fairmont family reunion. Ron is now in the company of the rest of our family members in heaven, oh what a time they must be having. God bless to you all from your West Coast cousins

Ron was such an incredible person on so many levels. So inclusive, the first one to welcome anyone on the Pickle Ball courts, the first one to lend a hand, the first one to organize a game, a party, or any kind of get together. He was our social organizer. We will miss him beyond what words can say. Without a doubt he is still at it today! warm hugs for you Ron

Ron has made a lasting difference to the entire Edmonton and surrounding area pickleball community and to each of us personally. He loved the game and he also loved the friendships that grew out of the game. On a daily basis, he was central to our Edmonton Pickleball Club, whether it was at Royal Gardens or at Westridge. His passion and commitment has touched us all and we extend our sincere sympathies to Ron's family.

RIP Ron Aloha from Kona. All of us girls will miss dancing at On The Rocks. Peace and love to You and Yours. A Hui Hou=

We will never forget him and know for certain we will never have another friend like him. His energy was infectious and honestly, a bit exhausting at times. Although Ron was not a huge fan of geocaching, in 2012 he took us on a fabulous road trip to Jasper National Park in his RV just so we could enjoy the beauty of Canada and do a little caching at the same time. We downloaded our GPS's with four or five geocaches we hoped to search for. But Ron had loaded his Ipad with coordinates to EVERY hidden geocache along our way and was determined we find as many as possible. He would pull up to a spot, hustle us out of the RV, then take off on his own quest, sometimes finding it before we could even get our GPS turned on. That's the Ron who will always make us smile.

We have so many stories we could tell from the few short years we knew Ron -- One of his "hobbies", second to pickleball perhaps, was checking out garage sales. On the Saturdays I was not able to go with him, he would often stop by afterward with a trunk full of treasure to share, always something he knew I would like.

We are so grateful that our lives intercepted with Ron's. We feel blessed to have had him as our friend but are so crushingly sad that he left us in the manner which he did. One garage sale trinket he gifted us is a small ceramic placard which will forever be my favorite reminder of him.

Dear Ron, we can only hope you are at peace. Please know that you have left behind a wonderful legacy of friends and family that loved you dearly and will miss you forever.

I was so sad to learn of Ronnie's passing today. I met Ronnie in Hawaii in 2015 while visiting my cousin Annie. He met up with us at the Legion and what a sparkle of fun he was! and always smiling, and so kind and helpful. Not a year later we ran into him again at the Sawmill banquet house on New Years Eve - smiling and dancing to his hearts content! He would pop up everywhere and he always remembered me and would always agree to a picture. I ran into him at Rock Fest in Edmonton two years in a row, always volunteering and with such joy in what he was doing. I will miss seeing him. It was a pleasure to have known him for a few years. My condoloences to his family. RIP Ronnie

I am so saddened and shocked to hear of Ron's passing. I have so many memories of Ron. Where ever there was a Pickleball Court, Ron was there. He was a great volunteer to not only Spruce Grove Pickleheads but he also got involved in other clubs. He love the game so much that it would be of the norm for him to hit several clubs in one day. Ron helped out so many people. He was a giver, not a taker. We became friends shortly after I met him. We would sometimes go out for a drink after playing and talk for a few hours. He was a great support when I needed him and he thanked me for my support. He was so proud of his son's and his grandson. He always had a new picture to show me of his grandson. My condolences go out to his family.
I am still in disbelieve over his passing. I just texted him prior to his passing. How could he be gone shortly after we talked? I have so many memories of him. We had good times together. He will be missed by so many people. I wonder if he ever knew how many lives he touched. Sad time for all of us that knew him. Very sad time.
