Rory William Carmody, 54, passed away on March 5, 2025, in Titusville, Florida. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, he was the son of the late Jerry T. Carmody and the late Eleanor F. Veteto.

Born on September 16, 1970, Rory was raised in Ocean View and proudly embraced being a true "OV Boy." He attended Holy Trinity and Norfolk Catholic High School, where he excelled as a gifted athlete in both baseball and wrestling.

Rory spent over 25 years as a Floor Technician, and he most recently enjoyed working with A1 Floors in Florida alongside his good friend Tommy Midgett. Their professional journey together, spanning decades, turned into a close friendship that meant the world to Rory. He cherished Tommy like a brother.

A passionate enthusiast of music and sports, Rory was a devoted fan of the Grateful Dead and attended many of their concerts throughout the years. He also enjoyed gardening and caring for his plants. His loyalty extended to his favorite teams-the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the UNC Tar Heels, and the New York Yankees.

Rory is survived by his son, John Patrick (JP) Carmody, and JP's mother, Beth Chastain; his daughters Meghan Martin and Emma Wilson; his sister Michelle C. Nelson (David); his brother Jerry D. Carmody (Mary); his uncle John Carmody (Elizabeth); and his aunt Marjorie Bean. He is also remembered by his nieces Amanda Heard (Steven), and Shannon Wood (Sam), and his nephew Michael Wood, along with three great-nephews: Carson, Harrison, and Jameson. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Michael T. Carmody; nephew Thomas G. Carmody; and brother-in-law David Wood.

A Funeral Mass will be held on April 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 154 W. Government Ave., Norfolk, Virginia. A reception will follow at The Knights of Columbus across the street.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville for their assistance in bringing Rory home to Virginia.

Rory will always be loved and missed by everyone who knew him, and he'll stay in our hearts forever.

Rory was a great friend as I was growing up. He took me in and looked out for me when I was young and wild. He taught me a lot about music, took me to many concerts and taught me how to drive the bug. I could go on and on. We had a lot of fun and we actually also had some structure, Sunday cleaning, picking up, work ethic and so forth. He was a big brother for sure. He´ll be missed and I can only hope he is in a better place. Condolences to the entire family.
