Sister Rosa Carmichael, OSF

Sister Rosa Carmichael, OSF, 94, died in Assisi House on March 19. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 70 years. Sister Rosa (Anne Veronica Carmichael) was born in Philadelphia where she was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and a graduate of Hallahan High School. Her sister, Sister Mary Teresa Carmichael, also entered the congregation and currently resides in Assisi House. Sister Rosa studied nursing at St. Joseph Hospital in Baltimore where she became an R.N. She later earned a B.S. in Nursing from the Catholic University of America and an M.S. in Nursing Education/Administration from St. John University.

During her 18 years the Diocese of Wilmington, she ministered at St. Francis Hospital, first as head nurse and supervisor and later as an instructor in St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She returned there from 1962-1968 as Director of Nursing. She also worked as an instructor at Neumann University in Aston, Pennsylvania, as well as in hospitals in Reading, Pennsylvania, and Trenton, New Jersey.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, 19014 on Wednesday, March 23. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial at will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. In addition to Sister Mary Teresa, Sister Rosa is also survived by many cousins, and by her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S.
