NEW YORK, N.Y.— Rosalie M. Gormley of Brewster and New York, N.Y., died peacefully at her home in Manhattan, on July 10, 2009, at the age of 83.

Mrs. Gormley was born and raised in Stamford, Conn. She received her BSN degree from The New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center.

In 1949, she married C. James Gormley, M.D. and they moved to Plymouth in 1951.

For the next 36 years, until Dr. Gormley's death, Mrs. Gormley managed his pediatric medical practice. During this time she was on the board of the Mayflower Cooperative Bank, served as the Chairman of the Board of the Jordan Hospital, served on St. Peter's Parish Council, and was an active member of the American Cancer Society and other charitable organizations. Subsequently, Mrs. Gormley was awarded a citation from the Massachusetts Legislature honoring her for her service to the community. In 1992, she retired to spend time at her homes in Cape Cod and New York where she was surrounded by her large and loving family.

Mrs. Gormley was the mother of six children, Mary Gormley Hall of Brewster, Katherine Gormley Tortolani of New York, N.Y., Charles J.Gormley, MD of South Dartmouth, Martha Gormley Emerson of Duxbury, Genevieve Gormley of Seattle, Wash., and Annie Gormley Conte of Seattle, Wash.

She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; her sisters Carol King, and Genevieve Wooley; and her brother The Honorable Harry McCue. Services will be private.
