Rosalind "Ros" Melita Hamilton, 55, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009 surrounded by family and friends.
Ros was born in Akron, Ohio to the late George Dortch and to Catherine Dortch on May 17, 1953. She graduated from East High School and then continued her education at Kent State University where she received her nursing degree. In 1982, Ros was united in matrimony to Harold David Hamilton, her husband of 26 years. From that union, three beloved children were born, Kevin David Hamilton, David Harold Hamilton, and Whitney René Hamilton.
She was employed for 35 years at Akron General Medical Center, most recently as a PreSurgery Registered Nurse.
In 1971, Ros was added to the body of Christ and worshipped faithfully at the Wooster Avenue Church of Christ. She loved helping to decorate the church and plant flowers. But she will be missed most for her smiles, warm hugs and kind words of encouragement to all she met.
In addition to her father, Ros was preceded in death by her brother, George Dortch, Jr. Along with her husband and children, Ros leaves to cherish her memories, daughter-in-law, Geneva Hamilton; mother, Catherine Dortch; brothers, Anthony (Catherine), Gregory (Fay), Tremayne (Beatrice), all of Akron, Timothy (Deborah) of Stow and Llewellyn (Marlene) Dortch of Fort Washington, Maryland; sisters, Jocelyn (Ron) McClendon, Cassandra Dortch and Karen Dortch, both of Akron and Joan Dortch (Compton, California); four loving grandchildren, Danae, Aron, DaeSha, and Kevin; mother-in-law, Emma J. (Willie) Shropshire. She loved and was loved by her many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Church of Christ, 1147 Vernon Odom Blvd., Akron, OH 44307, Brother Gregory Dortch officiating. Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Service will start at 12 Noon. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery, 2580 Romig Rd., Akron, Ohio. Processional will form and condolences may be sent to 780 Harvard St., Akron, Ohio 44311.

I believe this is my first time viewing this online, and yet almost three years later, it still brings tears to my eyes. What a wonderful woman you were, and what an excellent example you gave to all who surrounded you. I love you and miss you everyday of my life. I strive to stay in line with God in hopes that his grace and mercy will allow me to see you again on the other side. Words cannot convey how deep the grief our family still feels and the hole your absence has left in our lives. Rest In Peace, you of all deserve to. I love you sooooooo much!

Throughout her family years.

She shed a world of light.
And in the memories she leaves
Her spirit will always shine bright.

As her birthday nears and my daughter grieves daily for her Nana, these things came to mind.......
Whitney be the Women that she raised you to be, you were her little (spoiled) princess.
David, always be you, no matter what other people think or say, she allowed you to wear that Ninja Turtle outfit as long as you wanted because that is who you wanted to be!
Kevin, her family was the most important part of her life, make that yours. Be there for them no matter what the cost. She showed us the importance of family at every holiday and birthday, she loved you through all the good and bad times.
To my daughter Danae' remember that Nana loved you. She is not gone but in everything you see, hear and feel. So as you grow up and experience life she will be right there!

"ROS" WAS ONE OF THE FIRST NURSES I MET AT AGMC WHEN I STARTED THERE OVER 20 YEARS AGO. I WAS THE NEW KID, BUT SHE MADE ME FEEL WELCOME. EVEN AFTER I LEFT 4200 WHENEVER I SAW HER SHE STILL GREETED ME WITH THAT SAME WARM SPIRIT. I THANK GOD FOR ALLOWING OUR PATHS TO CROSS.
TO THE FAMILY: "GOD IS IN CONTROL"! TRUST HIM TO SEE YOU THROUGH THIS TIME OF SORROW. YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS.

To my dear friend Kevin Hamilton and his family,
My heart will forever have the same tears as yours, you have lost someone dear to you and I know how empty that space is. You have to take day by day and night by night before the healing can begin. You might never understand, and question yourself why so soon, but only the man above can answer that. I know you have been raised to be a strong leader and I believe you will lead your brother and sister down the right path so your mom won't wonder, she'll already know that their in good hands!Remember, They ran a good race now neither of us will have to worry cause their in good hands.

Harold and the entire Hamilton and Dortch families,
My heart is truly saddened and shocked upon learning of the loss of your beloved wife, mother, sister and daughter.
She was the first teenage girl I yearned to model myself after. I recall admiring the intelligent, ladylike, friendly, gentle way Roz always carried herself throughout our years at Goodyear and East. Even as a cheerleader and at 'our' parties', she was the young lady who exuded a ray of sunshine, a helping hand, simply a beautiful flower. It was a pleasure to see her again as a wife and mother on Harvard St. still displaying those noble characteristics.
Please accept my belated expression of sympathy, as i just now got the news browsing through last Friday's paper and was totally devastated.
Roz will always be remembered as a sweet, loving angel and now she is home with her heavenly Father.
Please know that you all are in my prayers and thoughts as you adjust to her physical absence, holding onto the spiritual presence within your hearts and minds. God will comfort you, of this I am certain!
His word says "I will be with thee, even unto the ends of the earth", God is faithful to His word- "He will never leave you nor forsake you"- Only trust Him to care for you in your time of sorrow through your memories and continued love for each other.

Ros was the most gentle Spirit I have ever known. As a young girl looking up to my sister and her friends as role models for being popular and accepted by my friends... Ros was my best role model along with my sister Pheobie. I am sorry to lose her she but I am glad she is not suffering. Her work will be done from the other side. Peace and Blessings to the family. I am just Butch and Phoebie's little sister, Linda. I love the Dortch family!!!!

To the Hamilton and Dortch Family
Someday
You sit and hold HER picture
As SHE looked so long ago,
You wonder how SHE would look
If SHE were here with you today.
God had HER in HIS plans that day
SHE was lifted from your arms.
But still, as days go passing by.
Your eyes keep searching, everywhere.
Your heart is still broken
As it was that other day, and
Though the days have passed and gone
You'll LOVE HER each and everyday
And if the Lord gave you one wish
You would not think, not for a second,
You'd ask to see HER face, your wife, mother, sister, aunt
If for just a single, fleeting minute
I am locked up deep within your soul, and etched into your heart,
And when the time is right,
You'll once more fold HER into your arms.........
Someday

To the Hamilton, Dortch Family:
My deepest sympathy at this time I worked with Ros, we laughed and shared lots of treasured moments of her love, for her family she cherised you all and when the wind blows on a hot sunny day it is her just letting you know she is not far away. She and I shared the same name, we ate lunch together, I also went to school with Cassandra we grauated together Timothy and I sang in the same choir, and Roz and I laughed about that. To Whitney your mom will never leave your side and know she loves you and she knows you love her too. God be with Harold, Kevin and David she loved and spoke so highly of you all just know that God only takes the best and although your pain is deep now, for her no more suffering no more tears, and for you joy comes in the morning. Our hearts and prayers are with all of you. There are certain things only God can do, and your part is to let Him do it. It is comforting to know that although there are times when you can't seem to understand why and you are perplexed because there seems to be no way out, the Lord promised He will not forsake you, remember, He is the Alpha and the Omega so have an attitude of faith as you pray tonight, placing your trust completely in the one who was, who is , and who will give you peace and guidance. God's Word says He will provide protection and deliverance, believe that as you go through this difficult time. Trust Him!
