Rosaline PULLAN Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Oct. 22 to Oct. 23, 2010.
September 23, 1938 - October 2, 2010. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Rosaline Pullan. Rosaline was a beloved wife to Lyle; mother to Brent (Lisa) and Michelle; daughter to Eliza and the late Edward Shawn; sister to Yvette (late husband Hershey), Joy (Jerry), Grace (Martin) and Stan (Nora); sister-in-law to Bonnie, Jerry (Carolyn) and doting grandmother to Zachary, Jessica, Olivia, Sari and Eden. Her many nieces and nephews are also mourning the loss of their always smiling and loving Auntie Rose. Born in Kobe, Japan Rosaline was the eldest of five siblings. During WWII, the family fled to the countryside just prior to the bombing of the family home in Kobe. After the war, Rosaline and her younger sisters spent a few years at Bishop Cotton boarding school in Bangalore, India. A short stay in London preceded the family's immigration to Vancouver, Canada. There were never enough hours in a day for Rose. Her many commitments and passions included the Associates of the Vancouver Art Gallery, for whom she organized art tours to numerous cities in North America and to Venice, Italy; volunteering for the Winter Olympics processing incoming delegations at the airport; weekly bridge games with her "girls"; learning Mandarin; volunteering with Hadassah-WIZO and spending time with her grandchildren, just to name a few. Of course she also managed to fit in travels to over 60 countries with the love of her life, Lyle. Rose's sense of adventure and love of life was contagious. Throughout Rose's brief battle with lung cancer, she was supported by her clergy, Rabbi Jonathan Infeld and Cantor Michael Zoosman of the Beth Israel Synagogue Their many visits uplifted Rose's spirits and provided much comfort. Rose's brief stay at the Palliative Care Unit at VGH was enhanced by the compassionate care received, especially from Nurse Laura. The family is grateful to all who reached out and aided Rosaline as she courageously battled this horrendous disease. If you wish to make a donation in Rose's memory, please consider a gift to either Congregation Beth Israel or the Palliative Care Unit at VGH.
