Roscoe Lester Parrish Jr., 80, of Valdosta, died Monday, March 3, 2008, at his home. He was born on July 3, 1927, in Lowndes County to the late Roscoe Lester Sr. and Marcella Weldon Parrish. Mr. Parrish had lived in Fitzgerald for 15 years before moving back to Valdosta many years ago. He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. Mr. Parrish was retired plant manager with Pet Dairy Company and had been associated with Winn Dixie for 18 years. He had been active in the Fitzgerald Jaycees and was an avid sports fan who loved the Valdosta Wildcats. Survivors include his wife, Mary Parrish of Valdosta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Mike Welch of Hahira, Janet and Paul Nichols of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda Parrish of Hahira; grandchildren, Leslie (Terry) Belanger, Beth (Christopher) Cowles, Chad Parrish, J.P. Nichols; great-grandchild, Tanner Belanger; stepgrandson, Lee (Ashley) Jackson; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Louise Parrish of Monroe, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Dot and Corky Carr of Binghamton, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Ann Parrish of Columbus, Ga. He was preceded in death by a stepgrandson, Scott Jackson; and two brothers, Raymond Parrish and James Parrish. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2008, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Rick Stevens and Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery in Hahira. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund.
