Rose (Burns) Hohert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 3, 2024.
Hohert (nee Burns), Ellen Rose, June 4, 1939 - October 2, 2023. Called "Rosie" by her husband and "Lynne" by everyone else – our beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother passed peacefully in her sleep on October 3, 2023, blessedly ending her recent struggles with dementia. Born to John (Jack) Wallace Burns and Helen Denison Burns in Kimberley, British Columbia, on June 4, 1939, Lynne grew up in Ainsworth, BC – a small, tight-knit mountain community on the shores of Kootenay Lake. The eldest of five siblings, Lynne always had fond memories of her childhood in Ainsworth. She skipped a grade in elementary school and graduated from L. V. Rogers Secondary School in Nelson BC in 1956. Lynne went on to study business at Vancouver Technical College, where she met her husband, Rob, while attending a college party at UBC. Married in June 1962, Lynne was a devoted wife and worked to support Rob while he finished his engineering studies. Her three daughters followed shortly in 1967 (Kimberlea), 1970 (Robynn), and 1974 (Chandra). Rob's career took the family to the United States in 1979, and they lived in Washington; Indiana; and Virginia, before Rob and Lynne finally settled in Stoughton, Wisconsin, where they have resided since 1991.

Lynne never met a stranger and loved to chat with anyone and everyone. She enjoyed gardening, browsing the Madison Farmers Market, and staying up to date on current events. She was also a talented Scrabble player. Lynne always put her family first. Her nine grandchildren were her greatest joy, and Lynne was a consistent and welcome presence in the homes of her daughters, where she loved reading with her grandkids and making Grandma's special applesauce. During her later years, Lynne also enjoyed spending time with Rob in Brunswick, Georgia, where the couple docked their boat, "Enchantress."

Lynne is reunited in heaven with her parents, whom she terribly missed. She is survived by her husband, Robert Hohert of Stoughton, Wis.; daughters: Kim Robb (Stuart) of Lake Forest, Ill., Robynn Gerlach (Jason) of Littleton, Colo., and Chandra Kreider (Scot) of Denver, Colo.; as well as her nine grandchildren: Rory Robb, Avery Robb, Reese Gerlach, Chloe Robb, Sascha Robb, Gabrielle Gerlach, Milo Kreider, Rosie Kreider, and Theo Kreider. Lynne is also survived by three of her siblings: Peggy Salvador (Cranbrook, BC), Jean Macaulay (Cranbrook, BC), and Patty Burns (Ottawa, Ont).

A Celebration of Lynne's life will be held on June 8, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Road B, Stoughton, WI 53589. View the celebration online at www.facebook.com/christlutheranchurchstoughton
