Rose Langhart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 3, 2024.
We have lost a significant branch from our family tree.

Rose Marie Langhart, 91, of Lansing, Michigan passed away on May 30, 2024. A family service will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she will rest in Mount Lebanon Cemetery alongside her beloved husband.

Rose was born on November 19, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Mount Lebanon High School and went on to pursue further education at Bethany College. In 1953, Rose married the love of her life, Jerry Langhart, and raised their four children in Lansing, Michigan.

Throughout her service of 22 years, Rose exemplified excellence in her role within Michigan State University's Internal Medicine Department. The 'Rose Award' was established in her honor upon retirement to commemorate her remarkable dedication.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Rose exuded warmth, forming instant friendships with her genuine kindness. She passionately shared her love of Lake Charlevoix with all. The cherished Langhart tradition of making world-famous rock candy will continue in her memory.

Rose's outpouring of love shows as our family tree continues to grow. Those left to honor her memory include her children, Debra (Jeffrey) Redman, Susan (Shawn) McCarthy, James (Connie) Langhart, Steven (Karen) Langhart, nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both her parents and husband.

In lieu of flowers, please consider allocating memorial contributions to The Wharton Center for Performing Arts in honor of her love for Michigan State University - Go Green!

Rose was my very dear friend. We became acquainted when we were members of the First Presbyterian Church. We had many good times together, going out to dinner and attending sports events. Family was very important to Rose. To the family-my deepest sympathy. May loving memories bring you comfort and peace.

Dear Jeff, Debbie, Susan and Steve,

We are so sorry to hear of your mother´s passing. She was a wonderful woman and she will be missed.

She and I once took an exercise class together and she was asked if she was my mother. She said that she was like a second Mother to me and I have always felt that way about her. Janet and I used to love to play dress-up with your mother´s old dress pumps. (Her foot was so small that they fit us!) We were so blessed to grow up together as neighbors/family. I treasure those memories and I pray that memories of her will bring you and your families comfort in the coming days.

We pray that God will grant you peace and comfort in the knowledge that she has been reunited with her beloved Jerry.

With Love,
Mary and Tom Davis

So sorry to learn of Rosie´s passing.
I do have such great memories of your mom, making rock candy at Christmas time, learning to ski at Lake Charlevoix, marveling at how she raised her four children with fun and energy.
Your home was a haven for me in my tumultuous junior high and high school years.
A life well lived, and loved.
Your family will be in my prayers.

Dear Jeff (and Connie): I was so saddened to hear of your mom´s passing. How lovely that you both were there with her and that it was peaceful. You two have been her stalwarts forever - her rocks, especially through her aging years. She will leave a big hole in your lives for sure. I recall fondly a lunch we had at Applebee´s a little over a year ago: though frail, she happily regaled me with many details of your family members´ lives; her family was her lode star. I have always so admired her strength raising you all alone. She and I always remembered each other´s birthdays - next Nov 19 will make me sad. She was always so positive and truly a remarkable woman. The Spartans have lost a huge fan!!

Do let me know if you plan any public gathering in her memory. I am betting that the "Euchre group" will do something in her memory.
Love to you both,
Ruth

Oh, Jeff. I feel for you and your family. Your mom has led such a challenging life - sometimes happily but sometimes not. I believe your dad is waiting at heaven´s gate to welcome her home. And I would be remiss if I didn´t thank you for the constant love and assistance you gave her so willingly. God bless you and your entire family. Maddy Jeffs

Dear Jeff, I have no words. Thanks for calling me so quickly. I know she was in a lot of pain when I visited but I will always treasure the time I had with her watching her beloved Spartans, cruising her around in her wheel chair, playing solitaire on the computer and having lunch and dinner in the dining room getting her cookies. My heart is with all of you. Chris Frymier

Dear Jeff and Connie,
I am saddened to hear about your Mother and I am so very sorry for your loss. Thank you for letting me know, and I will tell Mary.
Your Mom was a truly wonderful woman. Growing up next door to all of the Langhart's was a blessing in my life. Between your Mom and my parents, we couldn't get away with anything, but I will always treasure those years. We had a really good childhood.
I know you will always miss your Mom, and I hope you take comfort knowing that she has gone home to your Dad.
You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Janet and Jobe

Jeff our most sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. I know you felt it was time for her to go, that her quality of life was minimal. However I know you must feel a sense of loss. Your Mom was a big part of your life, your being. You must feel at peace in the fact you and Connie tried so hard to help her, keep her safe and positive. May she now rest in peace, enjoying the company of your father.
Love,
Gail and Steve
