Rose E. Newcomb, 100, of Glenville, NY, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Ellis Hospital. Rose was born in Simpson, PA on March 5, 1910. She was the daughter of James and Winifred Heenan McNulty. She graduated from Carbondale High School and Scranton Lackwanna Business College. In her early career she worked for Weiss's in Newark, NJ and the Casey Law Firm in Scranton, PA. Prior to moving from Carbondale, PA to Rotterdam, NY, she returned to business school to refresh her skills. She obtained a position in the medical section of the Schenectady Army Depot, where she worked until her retirement. Rose was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, John James Newcomb and a daughter, Mary. She was also predeceased by six brothers and four sisters. Rose is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Keith) Welsh and Rosalind N. Streeter, both of Glenville, NY; her granddaughters, Joan (Scott) Peterson of Dacula, GA, and Sharon (Gary) Riggi of Scotia, NY. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua and Paul Riggi of Scotia, NY. She was a kind and generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt to a large family of nieces and nephews. When any of her family and extended family needed help, Rose was always there to lend a helping hand. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:30 a.m. at The White Funeral Home, 264 N. Ballston Ave., Scotia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. to be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, First St., Scotia. Entombment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3 to 6 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1811 Union St., Schenectady, NY, 12308 or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 918, Schenectady, NY 12301-0918. A special thanks to Hospice for their kindness and support in her final days. Also, thank you to all the nurses and tech's in the C-1 Nursing Unit at Ellis Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided.
