I was one of the people who worked with Rose way, WAY back at NBC in the 1980s. Rose and I worked together at NBC's Messenger Center, a rival to the Page Program (Pages weren't too fond of us as we were all competing for the same jobs!). I was also a contributor to The Resume Tape Book. The last time we saw each other was in 2005 at AAJA in Minneapolis (I was on one of her panels). We had a nice long talk after the panel and it was great catching up on where our careers had taken us over the previous two decades. We were supposed to have dinner together in 2009, but she had to cancel at the last moment. We would email back and forth sporadically (I'm laughing b/c once I had to be the "guy's point of view" for her cousin who was having a problem with an ex-boyfriend (thank goodness for old Yahoo emails as I was just re-reading it). I was out of the country last year when Rose passed and didn't find out about it until today. I am truly sad that she is gone- Rose Tibayan was one-of-a-kind and someone who brought lots of smiles and happiness into people's hearts. The world was a better place because of her (and her quirks!); it's a little emptier without her. =(

Rose accepted an invitation to speak at Rowan University in Southern NJ in the early 2000's. She was eager to share her experiences with young journalists and television majors. She will be remembered as a kind and generous soul who inspired her community.

I knew Rose when we were Thursday volunteers at the Field Museum. She was generous and honest with her time and dealings with all of us members of the Philippine Co-curation project. She photographed all our events every month for 2 years and shared the pictures on our website. We enjoyed and looked forward to those events.
