Rosetta Peeples Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 4, 2025.
Jacksonville - Rosetta Phillips-Peeples (10/31/1949-10/2/2025) of Jacksonville, FL, originally from Lake City, TN, passed away peacefully at her Jacksonville home with her husband of 36 years Dave Peeples by her side following a brave battle with cancer. "Sissy", as she was known by her family and many childhood friends of Lake City High School (LCHS), was a "Laker" cheerleader, "Miss Sophomore" superlative and known for her infectious laugh and beautiful dimples. Rosetta was baptized and a long-time member of Main St. Baptist Church, Lake City/Rocky Top, TN. Following graduation from LCHS class of 1967, Rosetta had a long career as a Medical Records Transcriptionist, a long-time member of the professional organization "American Association of Medical Transcription" (AAMT) and retired from the prestigious Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, FL. Rosetta is preceded in death by her parents, Kenny Phillips and Christine Disney-Phillips of Lake City, TN. She is survived by her husband and caregiver, Dave Peeples (US Navy Retired) of Jacksonville, FL; her sister Becky Phillips-Parker (Ron Parker) of Lake Norman, NC; her niece Christy Cupp-Ward (Brian Ward) of Nampa, ID; her nephew Alec Cupp of Knoxville, TN; great-nephews and great-nieces: Tyler Ward (Alexis), Colfax, WA; Grace Ward (fiancé Sandy Agrawal), NYC; Jennifer Ward (Almat Yeraly), Kazakhstan; Jonathan, Sarah and Daniel Ward, all of Nampa, ID; and Rylee Cupp, Knoxville, TN. Per Rosetta's wishes, she was cremated with no services. A gifted pianist, her husband Dave will place her urn containing her ashes on her baby grand piano, which she played daily until her illness prevented her from doing so. As Rosetta became less communicable, Dave said the only words she would say is "Where's Papaw", which is what all the grandchildren called her father, Kenny "Papaw" Phillips. We take comfort knowing that her Daddy "Papaw" was with her during her final days, waiting to gently lead her home to the waiting arms of her mother, Christine. With such fondness of southern gospel music, her husband Dave surrounded her with her favorite southern gospel hymns which seemed to calm and bring her peace during her transition. We are thankful for the many prayers, messages and the hospice care of Jacksonville. Rosetta "Sissy" is now at peace, free from pain, with her infectious laughter ringing through heaven.

"Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted" (Matthew 5:4)

Earlier today

What beautiful words for a beautiful Lady. She welcomed us into the neighbor and loved hearing her stories. She made us laugh and smile. Dave we know you will miss her but also know she touched so many hearts in her travels here.

Sincerely
Lois and Kimmie
