Roshan "Roshie" Kapadia Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 11, 2020.
Roshan (better known as Roshie) Kapadia, passed away peacefully December 11 in Sunnyvale, California, two weeks after her 90th birthday. Due to COVID-19 restrictions her family surrounded her virtually as she passed, playing notes of her favorite arias sung by Andrea Bocelli and "What a Wonderful World" sung by Louis Armstrong. Roshie was the wife of the late Darab 'Dady' Kapadia, the love of her life for more than 55 years. Roshie is survived by her son Homi and daughter-in-law Shireen of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania; and her daughter Anita and son-in-law Feroze of Los Altos, California. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Sarita and her husband Brian, Cyrus, Kaizad, and Neville; and two great-grandsons, Darian and Linus. Her two siblings, Soli Sethna and Lulu Sohrabji preceded her in death. Roshie was born in Quetta, which was then a part of India. After their mother Soonu passed away when Roshie was just two years old, extended family brought the three young siblings to Bombay, now Mumbai, and raised them in the Colaba neighborhood. Roshie attended J.B. Petit School, then a boarding school in Panchgani, and St. Xavier's College in Bombay. Roshie and Dady raised Homi and Anita in Colaba. The couple had a passion for travelling and frequently visited the United Kingdom, Europe, and the U.S. Roshie went back to work after her youngest started school, which was unusual at the time. She enjoyed working at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for many years. After her children were grown, Roshie embarked on a new career: as a tour guide for SOTC Travels, she took groups of Indians to visit the U.S., Canada, and East Asia. Dady lovingly called Roshie his "gypsy," lauding her love of adventure. In Bombay, Roshie was on the sports committee of PVM Gymkhana, and organized annual sports competitions for youngsters. As a renowned cook, she was well-known around town for her fabulous falooda with home-made ice cream, which she faithfully sent out to several families every Navroze. Most remarkably, Roshie and Dady facilitated several adoptions of Indian orphans to families in Europe. The couple immigrated to the U.S. in 1985. Roshie then took on another new career, as a teacher's aide for special needs children. Roshie will be dearly missed by her extended family around the world. She will always be remembered as a strong, generous, loving woman who always put her family first. She had an ever-present wit, great moral strength, and deep compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Roshie Kapadia to the Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org. A Celebration of Life honoring Roshie will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 6:00p.m. Pacific Time. Our hearts go out to the family. Please accept our condolences. Roshi aunty and Dadi uncle are unforgettable for their inherent joy that they always spread and their laughter and jokes. We will always remember all our interactions with them dearly. Loved her cooking and she always wanted to get a dish when she came over. She could reach out to any age group and chat them up and keep them engaged:)
May god keep both Dadi Uncle and Roshi aunty safe and together. They have left a legacy behind with their loving family and we are lucky to be a part of their lives. All our love, Neeti and Kochi.

Our sincere condolences to Anita and the entire family. We fondly remember both Roshan & Dady at the Zanc events, especially at Homai & Arvi's PG fundraiser where we would chat about our past experiences. We so admire all her amazing accomplishments; she was an absolute trail blazer! May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Please accept our deepest condolences. Knowing Anita as I do, Roshie must have been such a beautiful example of spirit, devotion, determination and adventure. What a shining example of living your best life she is for all of us. I will forever think of her when I hum the Sound of Music. My heart is with you all for your loss.
Love,
Les
