Brandon, MS

Ross Aven Parker, 48, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2012 in Red River, New Mexico. Visitation is 3-5 pm Sunday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Service will be at 3 pm Monday, July 9 at Pinelake Church in Brandon. Interment will follow in Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery in Brandon

Ross was a lifelong resident of the Metro Jackson area and was a member of Pinelake Church in Brandon. He was a graduate of Clinton High School and Mississippi College. He was employed as an Information Systems Manager at Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company where he had worked for 26 years.

Ross was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Missy and to his children Kyle, McKenna, Collin, and Conner. During Ross' 15 years of leadership with Boy Scouts of America, he has helped develop more than 33 Eagle Scouts, including his son Kyle Parker. Ross was guiding Collin and Conner to follow in those footsteps. Ross was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity efforts in the metro area, and also served as leader of the Divorce Care ministry at Pinelake Church. Ross' legacy will continue to extend far beyond these years of service, as everyone who knew Ross was forever influenced by his godly values. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Missy" Parker of Brandon; children, Jordan Kyle Parker of Flowood, McKenna Katherine Stafford, Collin Stafford and Conner Stafford of Brandon; parents, George Aven and Sara Parker of Clinton; brother, Dale Parker (Lori) of Clinton; sister-in-law, Karyn Perry (Andy) of Clarksdale; nephews, Reed and Jake Parker of Clinton, Rob Bellipanni of Moorehead and niece Morgan Perry of Clarksdale. Ross was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Garrison and Katie Ross; paternal grandparents, George W. and Lillian Aven Parker.

Pallbearers will be Henry Hardy, Terry Hairston, Joshua Jeffcoat, Tim Jones, Jay Sinyard, and Michael Welch. Honorary Pallbearers will be all past and present leaders and scouts from Troop 416, Jeff Carey, Jay Coalter, Brad Haas, Chris Morris, and Ricky Phillips.

Dwight & I went to church with Ross and his family years ago at Castlewoods and had the pleasure of watching Kyle grow up and Ross mature into such a fine Scout leader, father and Christian man. I know it sounds so trite to say and so many have said it but Ross was a really GOOD Man. We got to know Missy through leadership training classes at Pinelake as we all served under the Lifecare Ministries at Pinelake. Pinelake is so large and we often did not often have a chance to see and speak but Dwight and Ross talked for more than the casual "Hi, how are you." just a few weeks back. Now we feel blessed to have had that few minutes. Kyle your Daddy loved you. Missy, you brought a sparkle to his eyes and smile that went way down deep into his soul so I know how much he loved you. You weren't together nearly long enough but it would never have been long enough. Treasure your memories. Remember Ross is in Heaven waiting on the rest of us. Jean & Dwight Rigdon

May you go on with life on earth as Ross would want you to. Ross was a Godly man and his life reflected it. He was a witness to all and his witness lives on. He is home now and one day we will join him in that eternal home. We are just passing through here on earth. May the love of God give you and your family peace.
