It's March of 2024 and I just found out about Roy's passing. We studied together for our Masters in Meteorology at Colorado State in the mid 1970s. The main thing I'll never forget was how Roy gave of himself to everyone around him without asking for anything in return. He was full of heart.

I worked with Roy 20+ years ago while he was at NCAR. I enjoyed his varied interests. Most of all, Roy had a positive attitude about life. It was contagious. He will be missed.

Sue,
I'm so sorry to hear about Roy's passing. Though I never met him, it sounds like we would have gotten along famously. Lots of love.

I worked with Roy for a number of years on the NCAR Incoherent Scatter Radar/CEDAR Data Base, and later on algorithms for geomagnetic coordinate transformations. Roy's depth of understanding of important data properties and archival procedures, and his dedication to ensuring that the data and algorithms were thoroughly documented and well maintained were valuable assets to NCAR's mission. On a personal level, I had many interesting discussions with Roy. I was very sad to learn of his death.

Even though we cannot be there with you to offer our support and love in person, having this website helps us to feel a part of the service. I will take my computer over to mom and dad and show them the pictures and obituary. We are thinking of you all and our prayers are with you daily that God will uphold you and keep you in the palm of His hand.
I remember some pretty good visits with Roy in the past, most recent in Joy and Gil's garage. We had a lot of laughs over certain people's driving skills and incidents. Fun, fun time!

Roy was an inspirational and loyal friend, always quick to smile and genuinely interested in how one was and what they were doing, yet always humble regarding his own exceedingly interesting endeavors and adventures. His climbing experience and pure enjoyment of the sport were legendary, but it is the camaraderie, playfulness, and intellectual banter that surrounded him that are already the most missed. I have many fond memories of stories and routes shared, and his presence will long remain a tangible and appreciated part of my own experience. Thanks for the belays Roy!
