Roy Hardesty Obituary

Roy E. Hardesty, 86, of Spencer, passed away at his residence on Friday, December 7, 2012. He was born in Carbon, Indiana to Roy E. and Blanche Hardesty on September 13, 1926. Roy was a graduate of Indiana State University. He also was a WWII Navy veteran, serving on the Battleship New Jersey. Roy retired as a Vice Principal in the Bloomington School System in 1981, prior to that he had been a principal at the Freedom School. Mr. Hardesty attended the Garrard Chapel Church and had formerly been very active, serving as the acting president of Owen County Farm Bureau, Inc. for over 30 years, and was a past president of the local chapter of the Gideon's International. He was also a past director of South Central REMC. Roy had been active with the Area 10 Agency, participating in the Senior Games. Roy is survived by his children, Galen (Mary Jane) Hardesty of Spencer and Kea (Rick) Caldwell of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kenneth, Caleb, Jordan and Seth and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Genevieve (Waldrop) Hardesty and daughter, Leah Watt. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 14, 2012 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home. Pastor John Barker will officiate. Burial will follow at Beech Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the Spencer VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Owen County Christian Men's Fellowship or Gideon's.
