ROY SUTTLE MARK

   WASHINGTON, D.C. - Roy Suttle Mark was born to Roy D. and Jo Ann Mark at St. Joseph Infirmary, Houston, March 11, 1952. He died May 21, 2010, in Washington, D.C., where he had been a resident for 20 years.
   He was Washington Editor for a Daily Political Internet News and reported on Congress and wrote a daily column on Communication Issues. Roy fought the good fight with cancer and died in Casey House Hospice in Rockville, M.D.
   Roy attended Victoria High School, Victoria College, and was graduated from the University of Texas Austin, School of Journalism. While attending Victoria High School and Victoria College, Roy was a member of the National Honor Society. He was a member of The Boy Scouts where he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout.
   While at Victoria High School and Victoria College, Roy was a Sport's Editor of the school paper. He was also a sports reporter covering high school sports for the Victoria Advocate during that period. Longtime Texas Sports writer, Johnny Lyons, was Sports Editor of the Victoria Advocate at that time. Roy later said he learned a lot about the basics of sport writing from Johnny. Roy also said the he always considered Vince Reedy one of the Advocate's Editors at that time a valuable mentor concerning the basic ethics and responsibilities of journalists.
   While at The University, he was sports editor of the Daily Texan, the University of Texas newspaper. He wrote Sports for the Austin American Statesman, and then wrote for the Memphis Commercial Appeal. While at The Commercial Appeal, he also did some writing on finance specialty magazines. Then the internet came along and the company started eWeek, an internet daily political business magazine which was based in Washington, D.C. Roy was Washington Editor and Senior Writer for this publication. He reported on Congressional actions on laws and regulations concerning communications and also had a daily column. He continued to write and publish every day until very recently when he became so ill he was forced to take medical leave.
   He is survived by his parents, Roy D. and Jo Ann Mark of Victoria; a sister, Glynda (Mrs. Johnny) Martin of Pleasanton; a brother, Boyd H. Mark of San Diego; and several nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his Uncle Mickey and Aunt Carleen Mark of Pearland. Roy always referred to them as his "Other Mother and Dad". He leaves Susan Delbert, a special friend in D.C., and many other friends and associates in D.C. in both the writing/publishing and the political field.
   Memorials can be made in Roy's name to First United Methodist Church of Victoria or donor's choice.
