Roy Patterson Obituary
Roy was a 1943 Reitz graduate. He was a WWII Veteran serving with the Navy.
Roy was a founding member of the FLANDERS Electric family in 1947 when it was only three employees, including, himself. His exceptional work ethic, long-term commitment to customer service, unwavering desire to always do the right thing and his guiding principles to love others, and treat them as you would want to be treated and to serve others made him truly one of a kind. For over 55 years he enjoyed working full time up to the age of 89.
Roy was a member of the Methodist Church in McCutchanville. He was the recipient of the EASA Exceptional Achievement Service Award. He belonged to the American Legion Post 351 in Elberfeld for over 60 years. He was graduate of Purdue University and also Dale Carnegie. He was an avid golfer.
Roy was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Theresa Patterson; two great grandchildren; and brother, Lloyd Patterson
Roy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mariline (Holtz) Patterson; sons, David Patterson (Linda), Don Patterson of Heath, TX, and Dan Patterson (Debbie); grandchildren, Allen (Jane), Joseph (Amanda), Douglas (Carrie), Sarah, Casondra, Craig (Lindsey) and Catie Patterson; 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, January 4, 2016, at Alexander North Chapel, with burial in McCutchanville Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion UCC-Elberfeld, Riley Children's Hospital, Honor Flight Southern Indiana, or the McCutchanville Methodist Church Cemetery. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com.

I grew up in Elberfeld and knew Roy and his family -- always thought so much of them. Later I had the opportunity to meet Roy again when using his company for electric motor rewinding for our farm grain bins and dryer. It is such a joy in life to know people like Roy and his family -- the integrity and friendly smiles always are what I think of when I think of Roy. The world has benefited from his presence.

Roy was the epitome of good character and business ethics. He is a role model for anyone endeavoring to be a successful businessman. I feel privileged to have known such a fine gentleman as Roy. The world would be a better place with more people of the caliber of Roy Patterson.

Roy was outstanding due to his loyalty and honesty in his business, family, and community. He could have gone elsewhere and been successful, but stayed in McCutchanville to continue to help the community and provide respectful employment, that is a rarity in today's age. He has done his family proud and shows us that hardwork and respect for others can bring success, which one may not achieve by simply moving away.

I spent a lot of time while growing up visiting my friend Nancy who was the Pattersons' niece and lived next door to them. I have good memories of Roy & Mariline, the kids, and Brownie! Roy was always such a nice, friendly guy--always a smile on his face. My sympathy to the family!

Condolences to the Patterson family. Roy was a wonderful person and a great leader and owner of Flanders Electric. Being a lifetime resident of Elberfeld I grew up knowing the Pattersons. My husband began working at Flanders ten years ago and hardly a day went by without Roy coming by to say Hi. Roy was a hard working Godly man and has gained his reward in Heaven. I remember Roy as they young man who along with my uncle "Bud" Havens started Flanders electric. Every time I'm back in Evansville going down Highway 41 I tell my kids that's where uncle Bud started Flanders They cut the building right in half to build this highway so Flanders had to be moved.
