Roy Rector Obituary
Mr. Rector was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Caldwell Rector, two brothers, Robert and Jack Rector, and a sister, Viola Testerman.
He was retired from the Olin Corp., Bristol Compressors, and attended the Seven Springs Presbyterian and Mahanaim Methodist Church. Roy enjoyed gardening as well as metal detecting, having contributed to local books of historical interest. He was also an avid C.B.er and enjoyed his time with his grandchildren.
Survivors: his wife, Eva Thomas Rector; two daughters, Carrie Rector Hayden and husband Leo, Meadowview, Va.; Joyce Rector Marion, Konnarock, Va.; four grandchildren, Eric Marion, Sheri Yarber, Teri Owens and Amy Hayden; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Yarber, Kristen Yarber and Hailey Owens; special nephew, Billy Rector; special nieces, Patsy Parker and Velma Statze; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Roy Clayton Rector will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Sullivan officiating.
Burial will follow in the Glade Spring Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Yarber, Steven Maiden, Darrell Wolfe, Jack Statzer, James Duncan and Joe Statzer.
Honorary pallbearers: Steve Rector, Matthew Rector, Jack Olinger, Jimmy Wayne Clark, Tom Yates, Kenny Athey, Mark Owens and Charlie Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home and any time at the Rector Residence, 9241 Old Mill Road, Glade Spring, VA 24340.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Glade Spring Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 59, Glade Spring, VA 24340.
The Rector family would like to thank the members of Seven Springs Presbyterian Church, Mahanaim Methodist Church, nurses and staff at Grace Health Care, Sally Pennings, FNP, Darlene Rodeheaver, R.N., and special friend and caregiver, Cindy Keesee.
The D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is serving the Roy C. Rector family.
