MIDDLETOWN — Roy O. Robinson, 79, of Middletown, died Oct. 26, 2008, at Saint John’s Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born in Anderson, Dec. 2, 1928, and lived in the Middletown, Anderson and Madison County areas all of his life.

He was a career soldier in the Indiana National Guard for 40 years before retiring in 1988 as Sgt. 1st Class of 138th Signal Battalion 38th Division.

He was a member of Meadowbrook Church of Christ and he was baptized in 2006. He was a 33-year member of the Fellowship Masonic F and AM Lodge 681, past commander of American Legion Post 408, he was given a lifetime membership in the American Legion Post 216 in Middletown when he retired from the National Guard. He was a member of Voiture 510 of the 40 and 8 and Madison County Shrine Club.

Roy’s love of God, flag and country was his true spirit. He proudly marched with the American Legion Post 408 Color Guard in countless parades and ceremonies.

Spending summers at his “Wayside Inn” at Lost Lake cooking for friends and sharing campfire parties was his joy.

He also loved and lived life to the fullest when visiting dear friends at “The River,” four-wheeling on Kitchen’s Mountain and holidays at Bandy’s boating on the Ohio.

Survivors include his best friend and companion for 16 years, Vickie (Hughes), whom he married on Feb. 18, 2006 in Anderson; stepchildren, Heidi (Brad) Horton of Anderson and Hank (Annette) Swanson of Anderson; sister, Nadine Swords of Florida; mother-in-law, Cona Winkel of Anderson; sister-in-law and special friend, Mickey Parsons of Anderson; sisters-in-law, Tammy Hughes of Alexandria, Nikki (Kevin) Watson; brothers-in-law, Randy (Brenda) Hughes of Anderson and Tony (Carla) Hughes of Austin, Texas and Tim Winkel of Anderson; four grandchildren, Dax Swanson, Lexi “Little Bit” Swanson, Lizzi “Little Busy” Blu Horton, Ashley “A.J.” Horton; several nieces and nephews including nephews, Harold “Butch” Schaller and Ron Swords and a special nephew, John Gilson; several aunts and cousins; special friends, Bill S. of Middletown, Jim and Kathy Williams of Middletown, John and Mary Smith and Danielle Smith of Daleville.

Roy also leaves behind his heart’s best buddy and pal, “Barney.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archibald and Bernice (Rich) Robinson; sister, Irene Hogue; brother, Dale Robinson; and a niece, Debbie Gilson.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Brothers John Reed and Felix Turner of Meadowbrook Church of Christ.

Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery with military rites by the National Guard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Services. Masonic rites will be given by Fellowship Lodge at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice
