Ruben Neuharth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 31, 2015.
RUBEN "BUD" NEUHARTH was born June 7, 1918, in Lodi, California, to Karl and Rosina Ackerman Neuharth and died December 31, 2015, at The Lakes senior community in Banning, California.

Ruben, also known as "MAJ" at the Army Navy Academy in Carlsbad was a member of its first graduating class in 1937. He became a successful Chamber of Commerce Executive in the 1940's till the 1970's when he and his wife Nancy joined Glenn Coon's A B C's of Prayer Crusade and traveled throughout the country as volunteers for the next thirty years teaching listeners how to claim God's promises. While established in Chamber of Commerce work, the Neuharth family lived in National City, Inglewood, and Escondido where Ruben was also a faithful member and Elder in the Seventh-day Adventist Churches of Inglewood, Escondido, and San Marcos along with managing the Prayer Crusade with the Coon family.

Ruben is survived by three children and their spouses, Gary & Betty/Elizabeth Neuharth of Redlands, Dennis & Claire Neuharth of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Don & Nancy Neuharth Troyer of Banning, CA. Ruben was preceded in death by son Steven Ruben Neuharth and daughter-in-law Sharilyn (Taylor) Neuharth in 1975 and wife Nancy (Hutchinson) Neuharth in 2010. Ruben and Nancy were married for 74 years. He leaves six grandchildren, Ray Neuharth, Michele Neuharth Vick, Daniele Neuharth Binder, Rosie Neuharth, Garyadam Neuharth, Stephanie Troyer and great granddaughter Tiffany Sharon. In his spare time, Ruben blessed his children by publishing two Pacific Press books, Steven Neuharth's "Don't Look Down" by Richard Utt and Nancy Neuharth Troyer's "The Other Side of the Boat" edited by Robert O. Vincent. His last words to his children and all his many friends were a soft but fervent, "Thank you!" It is our prayer that our father Ruben may rest securely in the Everlasting Arms till Jesus comes again!

My first sight of Mr. Neuharth was around 1990 through the tiny square of his post office box. I worked for the post office and would occasionally work in the PO box section. One day I was putting mail in his and Mrs. Neuharth's box and I heard a voice say "hello." I looked through the now open box and saw a sweet and smiling face. We chatted for a few minutes and then he left and I continued my work. But in the months to come, we "met" several more times through his box. He was always cheerful and I came to watch for his box to open so we could chat again. My friendship with the Neuharths blossomed over the months that followed and we even corresponded while I was in college. I feel blessed to have known them and I'm thankful that God brought them across my path.

Ruben was a Wonderful brother-in-law. He remembered every special occasion not only for me but also my 4 kids, their spouses and children, with them all getting Birthday Greetings every year. He was so special in caring about and wanting to keep up to date of each of them. His life was an example of Christian living and Love. He will never be forgotten. We will miss his cards, phone calls and cheerful voice.

I met Ruben and his wife Nancy in 2000 during my first trip to the USA. I was a 16 years old teenager coming from France. I was visiting Claire and Dennis, Ruben and Nancy's son. Since this meeting Ruben and I kept in touch and we sent each other letters and photographs as the witnesses of our lives for the last decade. This special relationship between us will remain impressed in my memory and I am thankful for his friendship.
My condolences to the Neuharth family and Ruben's friends (sorry for my approximate English).

Reuben's dear daughter, Nancy was my classmate at Lynwood Academy. We have regular ladies reunions of our class and he and Nancy's sweet Mother were at one of the reunions. Such a wonderful, positive Christian man! So glad Nancy got to enjoy her Dad for so many years. RIP Reuben. Patti Spindler

It is a time of sadness as we have to say farewell, but we know it is not forever as this is not our home. Ruben and Nancy are sleeping and one day we will see them again. We are thankful for their friendship and kind ways. Our condolences to the Neuharth family.

I only met Ruben when my parents moved into The Lakes in Banning 7 months ago. He always joined them at the same table in the dining room. Every weekend when I visited my parents he was always smiling and said I made his day. My mom passed five months ago and dad passed 4 days after Ruben. We were all blessed to know Ruben, even for that short time. Dance in the clouds with my parents, dear Ruben

Memories of Ruben Neuharth January 2016

It is difficult to write out in words what Ruben Neuharth means to us! Then of course, when thinking of Ruben, we just automatically think of he and his beloved Nancy as one! What a dynamite duo they were! We have been so blessed to know them. Some of the qualities we appreciate so much about them are:

Kindness
Faith
Trust in God
Bible claiming Christians
People of prayer
Cheerful all the time
Their large and genuine smiles
Their love of family
Love to keep in touch with us by phone, letter, birthday cards, anniversary cards, and even personal visits! (This was long before all the fancy electronic calendars we depend on so heavily now!)

There were many times when they were on the road with the ABC Prayer Crusade, they would go out of their way to stop in their motor home to visit with us, or let us know they would be in our area and encourage us to come out to the meetings so we could be together.

One time on a visit to our home in Western Oregon, Nancy figured out that our youngest daughter was just really ready to read and she sat down with our daughter one afternoon with a colorful simple Bible primer that we had for her and helped her read the whole thing! Melissa will always treasure that memory!

Heaven will be a wonderful time and place and we want to live right next door to Ruben and Nancy

Rest in peace dear onessee you in the morning by God's grace.

Your friends,
Daniel and Ellen Butler

My entry will probably echo many other people. Having grown up in the same Inglewood Church as the Neuharth Family, I remember Ruben and, of course, his dear wife, Nancy as very kind and friendly church friends. Being part of the same generation as their children, we all went our separate ways after our school years were over and we married and moved away, but the Neuharths kept the ties of friendship strong with a card on my birthday and one to my family at Christmas. For that reason, we stayed in touch for the remainder of both of their lives. It was a lovely thing that they did and I treasure the contact through the years. Both of our families suffered the loss of a son/brother. That experience tied us together also. It was a positive in my life and my parents' also to have known the whole Neuharth family and sincere condolences go to the remaining members in their loss of Ruben during this Christmas season. May God be very close to each one of them. Thank you, Ruben, for your faithful friendship. You were a wonderful man!

Reuben was very thoughtful in sending cards for special occasions or just "Thank you's" for being good friends with his son, Dennis. He was a lucky man to marry one of the sweetest ladies in the whole world. Looking forward to the new heaven and new earth to renew old friendships.
God bless his family,

For many years, Ruben and Nancy have been kind, loving, friends who kept in contact with me. Their phone calls were always uplifting. Their letters full of God's love for others. I will miss hearing from them, but thank the Lord for our "blessed hope" of seeing them again when the Lord comes to take us home with him, forever. God be with you all. Prayers for the family members.

Ruben and Nancy shared a special day with my twin sister and I; the 28th of December. It was their anniversary and our birthday. We met on a beach in California when we were babies, and even though we never saw each other in person again, we kept in touch for a total of 22 years! Every December 28th, they would send my twin and I some crisp dollar bills totaling our age. It added up each year! Three days before Ruben left this world, we again received our special birthday gift. He was our faithful friend. He would ask for updates on our mission trips, school, and life. I remember telling him about my first job as a lifeguard. I was very excited about it, and he told me that he too had been a lifeguard as a young man! Ruben was a source of spiritual encouragement to us, and blessed us with his words of wisdom. It was always a blessing to talk to him. I will miss him!!

Uncle Reuben will be missed. He always remember us with cards on each and every birthday and anniversary and often called to check on how our family was doing. We were able to visit, not often enough, and enjoyed our time. Nancy will be there to welcome him and God bless your family in this time of your loss.
