Ruby Lyon Obituary
Ruby Whitehead Lyon, 80, of Magnolia, Texas departed peacefully on July 17, 2013 surrounded by her family in Houston, TX.
She was born November 4, 1932 in Choudrant, Louisiana and is the daughter of Oscar and Susie Whitehead. Ruby graduated from Northeast Louisiana State University with a Bachelor's degree and Louisiana State University with a Master's degree. Prior to her marriage, she taught nutrition in colleges in Mississippi and Tennessee. After marriage, she was a practicing dietitian in Many, Louisiana where she and her family lived for more than 30 years and attended First United Methodist Church of Many. In 2002, Ruby and Jim moved to Magnolia, TX to spend more time with their grandchildren and family.
Ruby enjoyed attending the milestones of her 5 grandchildren and assisting wherever she was needed. She had a passion for baking for her family and friends. She spread joy and love through her delicious sourdough bread, pecan rolls, homemade jelly and pickles. She was loved by all who knew her and touched so many lives. Ruby will be greatly missed.
Ruby is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, James F. Lyon, Jr. (Jim) and her daughter, Judy L. Moses and husband Steve K. Moses of Houston, Texas and her son James F. Lyon, III and wife Donell M. Lyon of The Woodlands, Texas, as well as her grandchildren, Matthew & Caroline Moses, and Jamie, Johnathan & Jacob Lyon. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Brown and husband Gerald Brown of Monroe, Louisiana and Faye Hale of Bossier City, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her siblings, Catherine McGrew, Linda Grant, Clyde Whitehead, Cleo Whitehead, Clayton Whitehead, and Glen Whitehead. She is survived by brother-in-law Lee McGrew and sisters- in-law Syble Whitehead and Laverne W. Reeves, nieces Patricia Grant and Tammie Brown Gardunio and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend services to be held at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, Louisiana on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Fillmore Cemetery in Haughton, LA. The family will be receiving friends at 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Losing a loved one is always so hard and the sadness and loss are there but get a little easier as time passes. However, we never forget these loved ones as we carry them, as we carry Ruby, in our hearts. Ruby is missed by everyone that she touched while on this earth.

I want to say on behalf of all of 5HVI @ Memorial Hermann, that we are truly saddened by the passing of Mrs. Lyon, and offer our deepest sympathy to her family. She was truly a patient like no other. Her love for the Lord was evident, and I take joy in knowing she is with our Heavenly Father. Mr. Lyon, I am grateful to have met the two of you. My "Notebook" couple! I will continue to lift you and the family up in prayer! Love you dearly!

Mom and I send our deepest sympathies and condolence to Mrs. Lyon's family. Miss Ruby was such a wonderful lady! When I think of Miss Ruby, I think of Christmas. She always had a cheese roll that Bruce and I loved, and some pecan rolls that we all loved, but Dad especially! When I got married, Miss Ruby gave me a cookbook of some of her favorite recipes. Miss Ruby was always such a joy to be around, and I loved here dearly! Mom loved her dearly, and we are deeply saddened by this loss. Many prayers for you, her family, from both me and my mom.
