THOMASTON - Mrs. Ruby Huddleston Shelley, 93, of Thomaston, died Saturday, January 24, 2015, at West Village Retirement Community. She was born February 14, 1921 in Fayette County, Georgia.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shelley will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Thomaston. Rev. Bill Barber will officiate, and burial will follow in South View Cemetery. Mrs. Shelley's family will receive friends Monday evening, January 26, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shelley was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She moved to Thomaston in 1947 and married James B. Shelley in 1948. She taught at East Thomaston School and Rock Hill School for many years, and she later owned and operated Shelley's Dry Goods, a business started by her late husband. Mrs. Shelley was a member of First Baptist Church and the Fidelis-Grace Sunday School Class. She enjoyed playing bridge and telling jokes, and she loved Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream.
Survivors include two daughters: Julie (Truitt) Mallory of Thomaston and Beth (Neil) Pateman of Honolulu, Hawaii; a sister: Linda Blanchard of Fayetteville, Georgia; a brother: Ken Huddleston of Americus, Georgia; and four grandchildren: Shelley Davis of Auburn, Alabama, Zachary Davis of Thomaston, Matthew ( Laura) Mallory of Thomaston, and Stephen ( Jenny) Mallory of Marietta, Georgia.
