RUDOLPH HERPERGER Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post on Apr. 20, 2012.
HERPERGER, Rudolph "Rudy" John
December 27, 1929 - April 12, 2012
Rudy, aged 82, was admitted to St. Anthony's Hospital in Esterhazy, SK on April 12 in good spirits and characteristic playful humour, sharp of both mind and wit. He passed away suddenly later that day. Born on his parent's family homestead near Stockholm, he graduated from high school and spent time working in steel mills in Hamilton. Rudy married the love of his life Gloria (Rivette) on September 15, 1952. Together, they shared a long and successful farming career, including pioneering work in introducing rapeseed to the area. After retiring in 1999, they moved from the farm to their new home in Stockholm. Rudy was patriarch of a loving family of seven children, and they frequently filled his and Gloria's home with the joy, love, and happiness of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family takes solace in recently having been able to spend a wonderful Easter together. Rudy's penchant for inventiveness earned him the nickname "MacGyver" in his retirement years - and he will be long remembered for the tinkering and modifying he did around the home. Rudy is predeceased by his daughter Carolyn, his brothers Albert (Nellie), Alfred and three infant siblings, his parents Nicholas and Mary, and his in-laws Lillian and Douglas Rivette. Rudy leaves to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life: his wife of nearly 60 years, Gloria, his children Kerry Herperger (Rita), Beverly Herperger (Wayne), Harvey Herperger (Kathryn), Rhonda Shepek (Darcy), Janice Andrusiak (Brian) and Jody Herperger. Rudy will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jessica Graham (Dave) and their children Magdalena and Baxter, Kristy Herperger-Govender (Ash) and their children Brighton and Finley, Chase Herperger (Kristen), Lindsay Herperger, Josh Herperger (Erin), Ashley Andrusiak, Taylor Herperger, Brayden Andrusiak, Lucas Bardutz-Alegrias, Kelsey Shepek, Garrett Herperger, Mitchell Andrusiak, Eric Bardutz- Alegrias, Bailey Andrusiak, and Sarah Shepek. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Doreen Herperger, sister Mary Balázs (Geza), and brothers Frank (Audrey), Wilfred, and Raymond (Marge). A Funeral Mass to celebrate Rudy's life was held Monday, April 16th at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in Stockholm. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Rudy's memory to his favorite charity Covenant House of Vancouver. Peter Carscadden Funeral Service, Ltd. entrusted with the arrangements. The card table is set in heaven. The players include Carolyn, mom and dad, and brothers Alfred and Albert. They had better be prepared - because the card shark has arrived!

Dear Gloria, Rhonda and family,
Perhaps they are not stars in the sky,
But rather openings where our loved ones
Shine down to let us know they are happy!
Sending a hug your way to comfort you and remind you that your loved one is safe in God's care now.

Aunt Gloria, so sorry for your loss. You and Uncle Rudy were such an integral part of my childhood I always remember him with a smile. I had said to Bev that the amount of us that called you "uncle" and "aunt" is a testament to what both of you mean to us. Take care.
