Rudolph Pettinato Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 28, 2014.
Rudolph (Rudy) Aldo Pettinato
Of Annandale, VA passed away on July 27 at the age of 84. He was born in 1929 in Essex, Montana to Carmello and Rafaella Pettinato. Rudy came from a large and loving family of six brothers and one sister.
Rudy graduated from Flathead County High School in 1948. After graduation, he worked for the Great Northern Railway and then served in the US Army from 1951-1953. He graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula in 1957 with a Degree in Accounting. Rudy started working for the US Federal government in 1957 as an Auditor for the General Accounting Office (GAO) and was first stationed overseas in Tokyo, Japan. He traveled extensively throughout Asia for GAO and enjoyed the many cultures. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Takako (Michiko) Nagano, in Tokyo. They married in 1964 and then returned to the US where Rudy continued his work for the Federal Government with short stints in Seattle and Anchorage. He transferred from the GAO to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) during this time. The couple finally settled in the Washington D.C. area and lived there from 1968 onwards, where they raised their two sons, Jeff and Brian.
He retired in 1987 after 31 years of service as a Certified Public Accountant and Auditor for the Federal Government. He spent his retirement years traveling between Virginia, Montana, Pennsylvania and Arizona to visit family and friends.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Michiko; his brother Virgil; his sons, Jeff and Brian; his daughters-in-law, Amy and Caroline; and his 5 grandchildren, Emily, Sabrina, Ryan, Vincent and Quentin. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Yolanda; and his brothers Joe, Frank, Russell, Bert and Romolo.
A memorial service to celebrate Rudy's life will be held on Thursday, July 31, from 4pm to 7pm at the Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, Virginia.
