Lawson was born on October 26, 1947, to Julian and Mary McLeory Lawson in Lubbock, Texas. Rudy married Lydia Maldonado Lawson on February 15, 1991, in Lubbock, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Lydia M. Lawson, children, Barbara Armenta and husband, Lupe; Nadine Briones, Beatrice Hernandez and husband, Mike; Gary Briones; grandchildren, Joseph Rodriguez and wife, Gabby; Danny Loa and wife, Darrion; Riley Armenta and wife, Meagan; Jimmy Loa, Maximus Hernandez, Rudy Matthew, Sylus Kayne, Sarae Nicole, and Amari Geselle Briones; Penelope Princess, and Leandra Armenta; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Buster Lawson and wife, Donna; and Sue Ann Buffa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian King and Mary E. Lawson.
