Russell Cohron Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 23, 2024.
Henry Russell Cohron, Jr., age 76, peacefully entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on November 22, 2024, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Born on March 25, 1948, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to the late Henry Russell Cohron, Sr. and Ann Holder Cohron, Russell's life was a testament to faith, love, and service.

Russell is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Belinda Barnes Cohron. Together, they built a life filled with shared dreams and cherished memories. Their union was blessed with a beloved daughter, Elizabeth Cohron Venuti, who resides in Leland, Mississippi, with her husband Vince. Russell's legacy of love and kindness lives on through his precious grandchildren, Jacob, Beau, and Brett, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind his two adoring sisters, Sara Ann Dale and Melissa Cohron Homolik, both of Greenwood, who shared in his life's journey with love and laughter.

Russell's life was deeply rooted in Greenwood, where he was known for his unwavering love for family and friends, his passion for antiques, and his fondness of the cattle business. A graduate of Greenwood High School in 1966, he pursued higher education at Delta State University, earning a degree in Business. His commitment to his community was evident through his service on the Greenwood School Board and as a founding board member of Greenwood's Habitat for Humanity. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, and previously, North Greenwood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Following in the footsteps of his parents, Russell nurtured a lifelong passion for fine antiques and jewelry. Alongside his beloved wife, he proudly owned and operated Russell's Warehouse Antiques and Jewelry in downtown Greenwood for 45 years, which will continue to remain open. His joy in helping customers find their perfect pieces was matched only by the lasting relationships he built with them. His entrepreneurial spirit extended to farming, owning rental properties, car sales, and his favorite, the cattle business. Yet, it was his role as "Pop" to his grandsons that he cherished most, finding immense joy in their laughter and love.

Russell's benevolent spirit was evident in his many acts of kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His life was a reflection of his deep faith and commitment to living a life of service, love, and compassion.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the parlor at First Presbyterian Church, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Leflore County Humane Society, two causes that held a special place in Russell's heart.

As we bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, we celebrate a life well-lived, guided by faith and filled with love. Russell's legacy of kindness and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him, and his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
