Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Veblen, S.D., with Pastor Harold A. Watrous and Pastor Lyle Twite as officiants.
Burial will be at Palestine Cemetery, rural Veblen, S.D.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Frank Family Funeral Home, Lidgerwood, N.D. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers are: Ronald Haaland, Ralph Wickre, Merdean Sampson, Dave Lee, Robert Lee and Don Dathe. Organist will be Coleen Halverson with special music by Ruth Nelson and Coleen Halverson.
Russell Obert Granaas was born Sept. 6, 1929, in rural Veblen, S.D., the son of Obert and Bertie (Sampson) Granaas. He grew up on a farm and attended country school. He farmed all his life, retiring in 2003. Russell continued to live on the farm until September 2007, when he moved to Dakota Estates, Lidgerwood, N.D.
Russell enjoyed bowling, going to fairs, auction sales, parades and threshing bees. He enjoyed visiting with people. He was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church, Veblen, S.D., until it closed and then be came a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Veblen.
He is survived by his sister, Arlene Freeman, Veblen, S.D.; a nephew, Phillip (Karen) Freeman, Geneseo, N.D.; a niece: Laureen (David) Graham, St. Louis, Mo.; and three great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Obert and Bertie Granaas.
Frank Family Funeral home, Lidgerwood, N.D., is in charge of the arrangements.
