February 11, 2016 Seems a lifetime ago that we heard that you had given your life. We didn't realize at the time just what that would mean for those left behind. We are comforted because we believe you are at peace and happy with the God of Creation but it is more than difficult for us to continue on our paths because we miss you. We miss you - every day. Our thoughts and prayers are always with your family but today special prayers are sent - with love and deep respect always, Debbie and The Kutschbach Family

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Kurtz Family know that we recently made a small donation to the Campus Crusade for Christ Military Ministry in honor of Russell A. Kurtz US Army Sergeant. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

It is so hard to believe that today marks 3 years. I still remember the last thing you said to me and then getting the phone call saying that you and your beautiful smile had been taken away so soon. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Russell, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

As the Run For The Fallen continues, i realize the runners have passed directly by our house in Hillsboro, Tn. Yesterday, my husband and i set aside time to go to the nearest flag with the fallen soldier's name tag attached just barely down the road. As i stood by the flag, i carefully lifted the name tag. The name i read... Russell A. Kurtz. I stood by the side of the road, tears streaming in thanks for what this brave fellow has sacrificed and for the sacrifice of his family. His name and the honorable gift he has given the American people will stay with our hearts forever.

Just wanted to write a quick note to you on this solemn day. I try to take comfort in the fact that they are resting together in a better place now and watching over us all. Take care.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Once upon a time
I believed in fairy tales.
I believed in life without end
And love that never fails.
Then one day I woke up
And found it wasn’t true.
The only thing I knew for sure is
I wasn’t thru loving you.
I miss the fun we used to have
And all our late night talks.
I miss reaching for your hand
When we would take our walks.
How do I keep your face
From fading from my view?
The only thing I know for sure is
I wasn’t thru loving you.
What happens to the plans
That we so carefully made?
What happens to the life
I never thought I’d trade?
Now that I am all alone
I don’t know what to do.
The only thing I know for sure is
I wasn’t thru loving you.
And if there is indeed a God
Maybe He will hear my cry.
I pray that He will answer
All my questions why.
Why did it turn out this way?
Why our years together so few?
The only thing I know for sure is
I wasn’t thru loving you.
I long to hear your voice
Laughing at the jokes we shared,
And to have you whisper in my ear
How much you’ve always cared.
I want to go back in time
When our love was fresh and new.
A time when I didn’t have to worry
That I wasn’t thru loving you.
I hold the pictures in my hand
As I take them from the book.
Tears leave their stain upon my cheek
As I pause for one more look.
Once upon a time
Should never end so blue.
For all the rest of my life
I will never be thru loving you.
We'll never stop loving you Russell with all of our hearts!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Dear Kurtz Family,
How deeply saddened I am to offer you my families deepest sympathy. I did not have the wonderful opportunity to know your hero, Russell, but my heart aches for you and brings back the memories that my family endured in May 2006 when my brother-in-law PFC Steven W. Freund died in Iraq at the young age of 20. Please know that Russell will be forever in our hearts for he sacrificed his life for our freedom - a feat that will be forever honored and not forgotten. From one broken-hearted family to another, please know that you and Russell will be forever in our prayers. Please feel free to contact us if you ever want to share stories of our brave heroes or need someone to talk to.
May God comfort you in your time of need and forever... God Bless Russell.

To the Family and Friends of Russell Kurtz; I feel how weak any words of mine could possibly attempt to console you in your grief in such an overwhelming loss. You have the Thanks of a greatful Nation for our freedom that your son gave his life for. I can only pray that our Heavenly Father can comfort you in your grief and that you have your cherished memories of such a fine young man and the love that you shared. Russell will never be forgotten. God Bless you and your family.

I'm a member of the Soldier's Angels group and a mother of 2 sons in the Air Force and Army who have been deployed numerous times, I know the fear a military family lives with. Words can not express my sorrow. My God bless his family and friends.

I am very sad to hear of Russell's death, but very proud to say that he was a Bethel Park Alum who was willing to sacrifice everything for our country. He is a hero and we all appreciate what he did. Your family is my prayers, and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for being brave enough to defend our home.

God's Gift
We give our loved ones back to God.
And just as He first gave them to us and did not lose them in the giving, so we have not lost them in returning them to Him...
for life is eternal, love is immortal, death is only a horizon... and a horizon is nothing but the limit of our earthly sight.

Even though we did not know your son, he will always be a hero in our eyes and in our hearts.
I know there are no words to take the pain away, but I certainly would write them if they were.
May God Bless and keep all of you in His loving arms.
