RUSSELL WALTER RAUN

EL CAMPO - Russell Walter Raun, age 97, of El Campo, died on June 4, 2009. He was born on Oct. 20, 1911 in Upland, Neb. to the late George and Anna Madsen Raun.
He was a rice farmer and a long time member of the First United Methodist Church, Lions Club, 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and was a Master Mason, served for many years as president of the Rice Marketing Association, served as director for the Beaumont Rice Experimental Station and the Texas Rice Council, recognized as Farmer of the Year, and Citizen of the Year by the El Campo Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Kight Raun of El Campo; daughter, Joy Raun Beese of El Campo; son, Layton Raun and wife Linda Dale Raun of El Campo; sister, Bernice Wittig of El Campo; granddaughters, Jonna Raun of Newent, England, Rachel Raun of London, England, Ursula Luesing of Dahlonega, Ga., Alicia Leonard of Richmond, Tonya McKillup of Flossmor, Ill., and Kappy Randall of Hutto; grandsons, Scott Raun of Denver, Wade Hall of El Campo, and George Robert Beese of Lakeway; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa Baldwin Raun; second wife, Ruth Ann Hudson Raun; sister, Effie Raun; and brothers, Norris and Lowell Raun.
Visitation will begin at noon today at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Travis, Richard, L.G. and Tim Raun, Mark Sharp and Wade Hall.
Honorary pallbearers are Les Collins and Jack Birkner.
Memorials in memory of Russell Raun may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to Hospice Support, Inc.
