Russell Scott Vanderhorst

Russell Scott Vanderhorst, at a young age of 49, born at Norfolk, Virginia has passed away peacefully on December 11th 2015 from a long battle with pancreatic cancer. His wife, Carolyn was by his side when he went peacefully at the Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. He had been married to his bride for 17 years. He was raised in the Point Place section of Toledo, Ohio. Russ was given many gifts from God one of which was his intelligence. He was a brilliant mathematician. After he graduated from the University of Toledo in 1987, he then continued to teach at the University of Toledo advanced math to handicapped students such as those affiliated with deaf and blindness. He would be able to teach Calculus to blind students with his creative methods. He later moved to Goffstown, NH to be with his wife and worked at different teaching facilities and then started his own Television repair business. His love of life was contagious. He would always make jokes wanting to see people smile. Russ always wanted to keep expanding his knowledge and later graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in his adult years. He loved camping as a seasonal camper at Autumn Hills Campground. It brought him so much joy. He cherished the time in college with his fraternity brothers from TKE house. After moving to NH he became involved with the Masonic organization. Another hobby was playing with his amateur radios. He loved animals which was obvious with his 5 dogs, and 6 cats. All of Russ and Carolyn's pets were adopted through the Manchester Animal Shelter. Russ wanted to make a difference and these are words he lived by " Lord, may I make a difference in all I do, the words I say, and the actions I take. Lord may I glorify you, that you might be pleased with me". Russell is survived by his lovely, and devoted wife Carolyn VanderHorst, He has survived by many other relatives in various states of the country. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 16th at Phaneuf Funeral Home 243 Hanover St, Manchester, NH 03104 at 5pm. In lieu of flowers, it would mean so much to him having donations go to the Manchester Animal Shelter, 490 Dunbarton Rd Manchester, NH 03102. He would save every animal if he could.
