BRUNEL, Ruth Peace (Miller)
Peacefully, July 19, at Hamilton Continuing Care, in Hamilton, ON. Born in Ottawa in 1919, daughter of Henry and Pearl (Townsend) Miller. Predeceased by her sister Louise Miller; husband Erskine and son Geoffrey Brunel. Sadly missed by daughter Joy Brunel, son-in-law Scott Inch and grandchildren Ryan and Pearl Inch. Ruth enjoyed a long, full life. She attended Lisgar C.I., and worked with her father in his book publishing business (Graphic Press). After his death in 1942, she continued with the card and gift shop, under the name R. P. Miller's Stationers. She was a talented pianist and singer, and shared her gift entertaining at the women's jail, as a volunteer. In the 50's Ruth married, sold her business and began a new phase in her life as wife and mother. When her children were older, she re-entered the work force as secretary to Madame Vanier at Government House, where her sister was also a secretary. In the 80's, Ruth and Erskine began travelling. They toured the Galapagos Islands and parts of South America before finding a spot in Arizona where they could escape the Canadian winters. To the end, Ruth was always cheerful and her smile brightened the day for all who knew her. Ruth has been cremated, and her ashes will be buried in a private service for family and friends.
