Ruth Curtis

Ruth Elaine Curtis, 62, passed away on March 28, 2025, in Anchorage, Alaska.

Born on November 14, 1962, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Ruth was the daughter of Richard and Bessie Curtis. She graduated from Terre Haute North Vigo High School in 1981 and spent much of her life in Florida and Indiana before making Alaska her home in 2007.

Ruth was known for her sharp wit, generous heart, and unwavering commitment to the causes she believed in. A passionate advocate for human rights, climate change awareness, and equality, she brought both conviction and compassion to everything she did. Her sense of humor-often laced with sarcasm-was a hallmark of her personality and a source of joy to those around her.

She found great pleasure in reading and was a devoted supporter of the local performing arts. Ruth also followed professional tennis with enthusiasm. Yet above all else, it was her family that held the deepest place in her heart.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: William and Stephanie Hout; Candace and Brian Hilst; and Crystal and Logan Hannes. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Leighlyn Hilst; Alyssa, Ava, and Landon Hout. She is also survived by her siblings: Toni Curtis; Ron and Becky Curtis; and Nancy and Todd House.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Bessie Curtis, as well as her infant sister, Janet Leigh Curtis.

A private family celebration of Ruth's life will be held at a later date.
