Ruth Elizabeth Glass passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on October 10, 2014. She was 91.

Ruth was born in Athens, NY on June 14, 1923, the oldest daughter of Rev. Charles Martin Witthoft and Florence Zula [Shafer] Witthoft.

Ruth graduated with honors as Salutatorian from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, NY in 1941, then attended Wagner College on Staten Island in NYC the following year. She enjoyed many exciting careers and locations during her lifetime, including living in Yerington, NV for six years before relocating with her husband, Orbra, to San Jose, CA for her remaining forty eight years. Upon retirement she immersed herself in varied community volunteer work. Her passionate love for her family was cherished and appreciated and her compassion for homeless animals was endless. Ruth was blessed with a zany sense of humor and was a true pioneer.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Bill) Dexheimer, Pittsburg, CA and Karen (Stan) Dodd, Yerington, NV, stepson, Mark (Kathleen) Glass, Fallon, NV, eleven dearly loved grandchildren and ten adored great grandchildren, brother, Rev Charles (Sue) Witthoft, Fresno, CA, sisters, Martha Kopra (Tom Gretzinger), Austin, TX, Peggy (Doug) Hatch, Southport, NC, Florence (Bob) Hulsizer, Springfield, OH; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, loved ones and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev Charles and Florence Witthoft, brother, Herman Witthoft, husband, Orbra Glass and son, William (Bill) Wilkinson.

A Celebration of Life Service was held October 25, 2014 at Christ the Life Lutheran Church in San Jose, CA. Interment will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, CA.

Ruth was our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose kindness and spirit will be greatly remembered and missed. She will always be in our hearts.
