Ruth Marston Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 10, 2014.
Ruth was raised in Woodland, but was born in Chico at her grandparent's house. Ruth passed away at 98 years old - just three days shy of her 99th birthday. She was proceeded in death by Robert Melvin Marston her loving husband of 79 years. Ruth is survived by her four children, Gary Marston and wife Shirley, Bette Marston, Lynn Marston, Leah Sills and husband Gary. She was a grandmother to 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a sister Gladys Neaves of Roseville. She began driving a school bus for Grafton elementary school in 1946, her first bus was a 1946 six cylinder Chevrolet. She drove for 34 years until her retirement in 1980. Upon retirement Ruth and Bob, with other Knights Landing residents, started the Friends of the Library. The county library was scheduled to close so to raise funds for the library they established a thrift shop, The Rerun Store. All funds raised by the The Rerun Store were used to subsidize rent, purchase new books and furniture for the library, for many years She had a love of art, reading, collecting antiques, sewing, gardening, woodworking, making stain glass lamps and many other countless hobbies. After Ruth and Bob retired they painstakingly restored Bob's Victorian family farmhouse in Yolo County to its original state of glory. This project took 10 years to complete. A mass will be held for Ruth, on December 12, 2014 at 10; 00 AM, at St Paul's Catholic Church in Knights Landing, followed by a luncheon at the Knights Landing Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Paul's Catholic Church P.O. Box 176, Knights Landing, CA 95645 or to your favorite charity.
