Ruth Jeanet McGee, age 88 of Albia, died Friday, April 19, 2013, at Monroe Care Center in Albia. Ruth was born March 8, 1925, to William Henry and Elizabeth (Smith) Smith in Coalfield, Iowa. She married Donald E. McGee November 18, 1941 in Unionville, MO. They shared 60 years together before he preceded her in death on January 19, 2002. Ruth grew up and attended school in Avery. She had many titles including, farm wife, homemaker, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and most important of all, Donald's soul mate. Ruth was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia. She always liked being outside, taking care of her garden, mowing the yard, planting flowers, and going to the farm with Donald. Not only did she also love playing cards and spending time with her family and grandchildren, Ruth really enjoyed valuable time spent with her friends and neighbors. Ruth is survived by four children, Michael (Jean) McGee of Albia, James (Mary) McGee of Albia, John (Shirley) McGee of Reed Springs, MO, and Ruth Ann McGee of Albia; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a brother, Albert (Mary) Smith of Albia. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Donald; and eight siblings, Jerald, David, Edna, Pete, Beatrice, Robert, and two siblings in infancy. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m., Monday, April 22, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Ruth's family present from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening. An open memorial has been established in Ruth's name.
