Ruth L. McGrath of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, formerly of Mount Lebanon, died peacefully August 27, 2013. Born in Pittsburgh November 14, 1927, the daughter of the late Louise and Ventzel Potochnik of Monroeville, she was the beloved wife of the late Patrick McGrath, Jr.; and sister of Lorraine Ryan, and the late Helen Price. She was the loving mother of Patrick McGrath III (Susan) of Miami, FL, Brigid McGrath Stasen (George) of Philadelphia, Barrett Sean McGrath (Barb) of Pinehurst, NC, Maugeen McGrath Stark (Rodney) of Casper, WY, Moira McGrath Morton (Chip) of Columbia, SC, Mela Montgomery (Ken) of Hainesport, NJ, Macdara Hanney of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Flannan McGrath of Jacksonville, FL; devoted grandmother of Marie and Patrick McGrath, Monica, Mairin and Colleen Breslin, Katie Bluett (Paul), Barrett Sean Jr. and Kelly McGrath, Mark and Flannan McGrath Stark, Steven Morton and Meredith Morton Free (Travis), Mekayla, Mekenzie, Mekenna and Mekelsey Montgomery, Conor, Kevin, Shane and Shannon Hanney, and Lawson McGrath; and great grandson Eli Colt Free. She will be remembered fondly by her many relatives and friends, as loyal and caring. Ruth was a woman of faith, who was consumed by her involvement with her family and love for them. Ruth grew up in Monroeville, graduating from Turtle Creek High School where she was salutatorian. First employed with Capital Airlines, there she met her husband, Pat, to whom she was married for 47 years prior to his passing in 2003. While raising eight children, Ruth found time to energetically pursue career interests as owner of Firwood Imports, as a Direct Distributor for Amway Corporation, and a Fashion Consultant with Doncaster. Ruth was a dedicated volunteer at DePaul Institute, serving as President of the DePaul Auxiliary several times. In the early 1970s, she co-founded the Female Football Clinic, enlisting many Pittsburgh Steeler players to instruct women on strategies of NFL football. For the last twelve years, Ruth lived in Florida near children and grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, September 6 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 310 Kane Blvd., Scott Township.
