Ruth M. Nehring

Fond du Lac - Ruth M. Nehring, age 97, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Artisan Memory Care.

She was born in February 1921, in Chicago, Illinois, the tenth of twelve children. She attended Lake View School in Chicago. In December 1943, Ruth married Thomas Nehring in Chicago and they moved to Fond du Lac in 1948. She worked at Sears in Chicago where she met Tom and also in a defense factory during World War II. She was a homemaker and had seven children. Ruth was a member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, participated in their Senior Bible Study, helped at the Lutheran Home, the County Nutrition Program, and Low Vision at Lake View Estates. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sports, music, dancing, games, and gardening. Her greatest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and helping people.

Ruth is survived by her children Robert Nehring, Marianne (Robert) Geiger, Carolyn (Mark) Schorse, Thomas (Gerianne) Nehring, Janet (Nor) Velasco, Gary (Pam) Nehring, and son-in-law Mike Wozniak; and sixteen grandchildren: Cheryl (Jon Strom) Wozniak, Julie (Andre) Daniel, Craig (Alison) Geiger, Jeff (Megan) Geiger, Mark (Bridget) Wozniak, Tabitha (Andrew) Harris, Heather (Brett) Magnusson, Rachel (Andrew) Jacobson, Lynette (Adam) Engles, Sara Schorse, David (Carol) Velasco, Matthew Nehring, Tyler Nehring, Shaun Velasco, Joseph Schorse, Esther Schorse. Also twelve great-grandchildren Isaiah and Noah Daniel, Madison, Aspen, and Clay Engles, Paige and Grant Geiger, Everett and Eliza Dorothy Wozniak, Violet Harris, Norah Jacobson, Colton Geiger, and a great-grandbaby due in May.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Tom in 1998, beloved daughter, Dorothy Wozniak in 2005, her parents, six sisters and five brothers from the Chicago area. She always said "she was blessed with a wonderful husband and family. God was so good."

Ruth's family would like to express thanks to the staff at Artisan Memory Care and Heartland Hospice Care for the care given to their mother and us.

Visitation for Ruth will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, from 10:00-11:30 AM at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 855 Martin Avenue, Fond du Lac, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 AM at the church with Rev. Adam Zimpelmann officiating. Entombment will be at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park, N6250 County Road K, Fond du Lac.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Ruth lived by simple values - God, family, country. She was a kind woman and had an amazing smile.

Ruth was at the same memory care place as my mom, and so I got to see her often. She will be missed. My condolences to her lovely family.

Janet I am thinking of you, i did not know your mother but if you are anything like her she was a terrific person. I have not seen you in years but we went to school together and hung out many times. Hugs to you and your family.
