Ruth M. Schroeder passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 23 with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.
Ruth was the youngest of six children. She grew up in Michigan, served in France and Germany as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army as a WWII nurse. She came back to the states, married and moved to Oregon. She loved gardening, reading and baking. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren. She moved to Vancouver in 2018 and then in 2020 to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Battle Ground.
Ruth was widowed in 2004 and is survived by her daughter, Terri DeGroote and her husband, Jon; her son, Mike Schroeder and his wife, Sherrie. The grandchildren are Chuck Borquist, his wife, Kristen and their children, Langley and Grayson; Ryan Borquist; Megan Jones, her husband, Andrew and their children, Lili, Silas and Asher and Jessica Schroeder-Larson and her husband, Geoff.
Ruth will be laid to rest with military honors in Willamette National Cemetery.

It's been a year now. I didn't find out until January of this year from her niece Ruth Hubbard in Michigan. My grandmother, Nora Bornheimer (Ruth's older sister), use to tell stories about Ruth. Mike & Terri, sorry for your loss.
