Ruth SUPERSTEIN Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal on Jul. 4, 2016.
SUPERSTEIN, Ruth
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ruth Superstein was born on June 15, 1922 in Pinsk, Poland and passed away peacefully on the morning of July 1, 2016 in the presence of her family. Predeceased by her loving husband Jake Superstein, parents Molly and Jack Grabow, sister Dorthy Hoffman, and brother Max Grabow. She is survived by her brother Bennie Grabow and her three children. Ruth was a loving mother, caring wife, and proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
After coming to Canada in 1925 Ruth settled in Hilliard, Alberta where her father ran the general store. In 1944 Ruth met and married her husband Jake, settling in Edmonton to raise her three children Shelley Superstein, Marlene Hershfield, and Don Superstein. Growing up, her children recall a home filled with family members, friends, and people in need, imbued with an ever present feel of warmth and love.
Ruth was a patriotic Canadian and loved the city of Edmonton. Ruth and Jake were known in the Edmonton community as generous supporters and leaders of countless local and Jewish causes. Ruth was a passionate supporter of the state of Israel, and an active lifetime member of Hadassah WIZO. In July of 1991 Ruth was appointed to the board of the Government House Foundation, one of her most cherished causes. The Foundation was established in 1975 to advise the Minister on the preservation of Government House as a historic site. Ruth served faithfully as a member of board of directors for seven years. In 2012 Government House was designated as a National Historic Site.
Ruth was known by all as a woman of sheer elegance, grace, style, and great beauty. These qualities extended even to her later years as a resident at the Louis Brier Home in Vancouver. She will be greatly missed but her memory will be cherished by her family.
The family wishes to express its sincerest thanks to the staff at the Louis Brier home in Vancouver BC for their loving and selfless care. Donations can be made in Ruth's honor to any of the following: The Alzheimer Society of Canada, The Canadian Diabetes Association, or the Beth Israel Synagogue of Edmonton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Edmonton Jewish Cemetery Chapel, 7622 101 Ave NW, Edmonton, Alberta.

Hello. I have been given a book and I saw a personal stamp that said “library of Bennie Grabow”. If this literature is important to your family, I would be happy to return.
I will follow through with first name and email. Please use subject matter, if interested.
