Ryan MCINTOSH Obituary
August 10, 1994 – July 14, 2016
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Ryan McIntosh on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the age of 21 years. He will be lovingly remembered every single day by his parents, Andrew and Laurie McIntosh; sister, Skye; paternal grandparents, John and Maureen McIntosh; extended family and friends. Ryan was completing a 16-month internship at Garmin Ltd. in Cochrane, AB and was excited about a future in computer hardware engineering. He was expecting to graduate next April with an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Calgary. Ryan was a loving son and a true friend to many. He had a passion for adventure, which extended into hiking, backpacking, bouldering, backcountry and downhill skiing, music, board games and spending time with his dog Tess. Some of Ryan's greatest achievements included carrying the torch for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, and receiving his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. His strength, positive spirit and enthusiasm for life will live on in the many lives he touched. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church (1121 - 14 Ave SW) on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Photos, memories, and condolences may be shared with Ryan's family through www.evanjstrong.com. If desired, donations may be made in his memory to the Search and Rescue Program for Banff, Yoho & Kootenay National Parks (Mail a cheque payable to the Receiver General, clearly marked for the Visitor Safety Donation Program, to Brian Webster, Banff Visitor Safety Manager, Box 900, 220 Hawk Avenue, Banff, Alberta, T1L 1K2). Arrangements in care of EVAN J. STRONG FUNERAL SERVICES.

Dear Laurie Andrew and Skye, we were just devastated to learn of your loss. we can remember the many times that Scott and Ryan spent together both in early elementary and through there many years of scouts together. Doug's first thoughts were of the fabulous time he had with Ryan and Scott at the scouts jamboree. I know from our time together scrapbooking all your many memories that Ryan has had many accomplishments and was growing up to be a wonderful young man. we are so sorry For your loss. It was with profound sadness that we learned of Ryan's passing. We all have such fond memories of Ryan from the time he spent with Joe in Scouts and at the Science School. Joe and Ryan and Hannah and Skye were close friends for an important period of time - I can still remember telling them to make sure they called home when they got to Ryan and Skye's house so we knew they had reached their destination. Making willow chairs in scouts, panning for gold at Fort Steele or being a marine biologist in Bamfield, Ryan always participated enthusiastically and enjoyably and always put in his very best effort. It was such a pleasure watching him grow into such a fine young man from Grade 4 at the Science School through Western Canada High School. He played his trumpet right in front of Joe in the percussion section in band and while trumpets and percussion never really get along, they tolerated one another because of their longstanding friendship.

Dear McIntosh Family,
I don't know if you remember me very well, but I was a close friend of Ryan's at the Calgary Science School for several years. I vividly remember the many hours we spent playing with Lego and badminton rackets at your house during that time. I will always remember his passion for classic rock, technology, and video games during our formative years. I hadn't spoke to him for several years after CSS, but I frequently seen pictures of him on Facebook. I always knew he would pursue his passion for engineering in post-secondary schooling and I'm glad to see how much more involved he became with hiking throughout high school and beyond. I will always remember his sense of humor and imagination and I hope you find comfort in knowing he spent his life doing what he enjoyed most.
