Ryan Mulcahey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 27, 2025.
Ryan Patrick Mulcahey of Plainsboro NJ

Born February 22 1995, passed away unexpectedly of a long illness May 24, 2025.

Ryan was full of life, had a big heart, always had humor, loved animals and children. He was also very protective of his partner and love of his life Sajayah. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, you will remember his love of sports and his strong affiliation with the Boston Red Sox, New Orleans Saints and UNC Basketball. Ryan graduated from Hightstown High School and attended West Chester University, was a member of the IBEW and most recently worked for the USPS. He was a very caring soul and always reached out to assist others.

As an organ donor through the Gift of Life Donor Program, Ryan's last act was to offer a chance of life to someone in need.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Frank Mulcahey. He will be greatly missed by his family, parents Jim and Joan Mulcahey, sister Erin Mulcahey, Grandparents Pat and Joe Thompson, Grandmother Pat Mulcahey and his partner and love of his life Sajayah Baker. He had many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends who will miss his quick wit, fun and caring spirit.

Joan, Jim, and Erin,
I am so sorry about the passing of your Ryan. I knew a small part of Ryan, when he was tiny and when he was not so tiny. May you gain solace as you remember the times that have left an indelible mark not only on your heart but the many that he touched. My tears and prayers for you as you deal with this most difficult of losses.

Family reunion back in 2014 in Cape May NJ. Ryan challenged me to a one on one basketball game. Discretion is the better part of valor. I was tempted, but I made a good decision passing on the game. He would have slaughtered me at the least, and I probably would have got hurt. Had the privilege to witness him hanging out with his cousin Tommy. Two good buds. Two Red Sox fans. I never held that against either one of them. Ryan was about two feet taller than Tommy, but two good buds.

Ryan loved dogs and they loved him. With one exception. Nick had a cockapoo named Lucy that was petrified of Ryan. Ryan couldn´t understand this and he would get down on his hands and knees to get her attention. We decided the problem was his size, so Ryan got down on his belly and tried to entice her over. Funniest thing you ever saw. Eventually Ryan succeeded and I have mental images of Lucy crawling all over him.

Ryan and my son were best friends. This naturally meant we spent lots of time together. They shared a love of sports and more specifically a passion for basketball. Ryan was a member of another extended family, the Wagners. Having shared many games, vacations and parties together, his loss is profoundly felt. I will treasure his caring supportive texts forever , not arriving often, but always when they were sorely needed.

I met Ryan in the most unique way. Ryan was sitting with me at the kitchen table as I waited for his friend Nicholas´ mom to go out on a date. We got to talking and discovered that his dad was James, my friend from high school who I had lost touch with . It was an amazing and exciting coincidence. I also remember Ryan and I riding shotgun while Nick had his driving permit. His steady manner kept things cool. I have no words to express my sadness for his family. Cherish every moment of life we are blessed with.

We were so saddened to hear about Ryan´s passing. We enjoyed many great and enjoyable times with Ryan - from competitive mini golf games, playing Spoons, ping pong, going to Fenway for Red Sox games and much more. Ryan was always ready for some fun. All of the kids enjoyed being with him! Don and I always were happy to see Ryan. We will always miss him and remember him. Prayers for Jim, Joan and Erin.
