Sadashiv V "Vinay" Apte

Vinay Apte, age 73, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on November 9, 2023. He was born in Mumbai, India to Prabhavati and Vinayak Apte and was known by his preferred name, Vinay. Vinay was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his children, Saneesh Apte and Jinny Provencher, and their daughter, Maeve; and by Sameer Apte and Ashley Fallow, and their children, Aidan and Ava. Vinay was preceded in death by his first wife, Chitra Apte.

Vinay was known for his generosity and kindness. He had a deep love for his family, doting on his children and grandchildren. He also had a passion for classical Indian music and was an avid bridge player. Vinay not only enjoyed the game of bridge, but he also helped many bridge players improve their skills.

Vinay had an impressive educational background, having graduated from Robert Money High School in Mumbai, India. He attended IIT University in Mumbai, India. He went on to earn a Masters Degree from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.

Throughout his career, Vinay worked for Imperial Oil in Canada, England, and the U.S. He made significant contributions to the company and was highly regarded by his colleagues. Vinay had the privilege of working as a project manager for three Olympic venues during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in Georgia.

Aside from his professional achievements, Vinay was a dedicated bridge player. He achieved the rank of Diamond Life Master with the American Contract Bridge League and was a certified bridge teacher. Vinay shared his knowledge and passion for the game by teaching online bridge classes to students around the world.

A memorial service to honor Vinay's life will be held on December 10, 2023, at 3:00pm at the Gene Manion Bridge Center located at 510 E. Park Ave., Charlotte, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the following organizations: Loaves & Fishes, Charlotte, NC; Alzheimer's Association; and Habitat for Humanity.

Vinay Apte will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing.
