Sally Chapman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 22, 2024.
Sally Jo Chapman UPPER Sally Jo Chapman, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024. Born on March 12, 1937, in Marion, Ohio, Sally was the cherished daughter of Marjorie and Amos Chapman.

Sally graduated with a bachelor's degree from Ohio State where she became one of the first dental hygienist in the country. Later, she moved to Texas, where she completed her master's degree in psychology from the University of Houston Clear Lake. She fulfilled an extraordinary accomplishment with the Jung Institute in Zurich, and held this experience close to her heart. She ended her professional career in 2000 after devoting over 20 years to UTMB. Her dedication to helping others and her profound empathy were hallmarks of her long and distinguished careers.

A resident of Galveston, Texas, Sally found immense joy in the beauty of nature. She had a deep love for her sweet dogs, (Loki, Hope, Sophie), the serenity of water, and the companionship of animals. The arts were another of Sally's great passions, and she was a frequent visitor to local galleries, theaters, and libraries. Her heart, however, was most at peace by the beach, where she often spent her days soaking in the sun and the calming sound of the waves.

Sally is survived by her loving daughter, Diane (DeeDee) Ellis, and her devoted son, The Rev. Dr. Eric Ellis. She was a proud and doting grandmother to her granddaughters Zoie (Annie) Ellis, Megan Ellis, and grandson Parker Ellis. Sally also leaves behind her dear sister, Janet McIlwain. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margie Winfield.

Sally's warmth, wisdom, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.

A service of Sally's life will be held on Saturday, August 3, in League City, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church at 11 am, 2508 St. Christopher Ave., League City, Texas 77573, and a celebration of life will be from 2-6pm at Sundance Grill II, 800 Mariners Drive, Kemah, Texas 77565. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Friends of Pine Gully c/o Galveston Bay Foundation.
