Sally Sharpe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 12, 2017.
September 24, 2017 Sally passed away peacefully at her home in Rocklin, CA following an extended illness. Born to Joyce (n‚e Gaul) and Jerry Livengood in St. Joseph MI, Sally grew up happily in southwestern MI before graduating with honors from high school in Leelanau County, MI. Sally attended Michigan State University and then McGill University in Montreal, Canada, graduating in 1975 with a Distinction in English Literature. In 1993 she earned her Masters degree in TESOL from California State University Sacramento. In 1975 Sally trained with the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa and then worked in Connecticut as an editor for Early Years magazine. Following her marriage in 1976, Sally and her family lived in Santa Barbara, CA and Kirkland WA, moved to Germany for a 7-year period, and then settled in the Sacramento, CA area in 1989. While raising her two sons, Sally taught English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) at UC Davis and held management positions with Office Depot and local building companies. In 2005, Sally again lived in Germany for 3 years where she was a project specialist for environmental projects at USAF bases throughout Europe and the Middle East. Retiring in 2012, Sally found her favorite work volunteering as a Docent at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento. With her husband, Sally traveled widely throughout Europe and the US with a focus on family, friends, and art. A great reader of art history and mysteries, Sally also spent time creating photo books and raising a loving and accomplished family. She loved to hike on her travels and was especially fond of snowshoeing in the Sierras where she was reminded of the beauty of her beloved Leelanau County. Sally was predeceased by her brother, Dr. Larry (Susan) Livengood of Neenah, WI, and is survived by her parents, Jerry and Joyce Livengood of Sun City, AZ, her loving husband, Graham and their two sons: Brian (Sarah) of Chicago, IL and Alec of Valley Village, CA, and her sisters Suzanne (Jimmy) Lee of Crystal Lake, IL, and Sharan (Mark) Redmond of Phoenix, AZ. Sally also was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews. A private service is planned in southern CA. Sally can be best remembered through your support of the Crocker Art Museum. www.crockerart.org/donate.

Often I come across Sally's path through the years since she has left her mark on our hearts. She was a dear, caring, intelligent person, spouse, mother & friend. My wish is she would have stayed around spreading her joy. I know she would have liked to and her Spirit is spreading joy in our cherished memories each time we think of her.

I met Sally through our shared participation in church activities. She was gracious and inspiring to work with and the word that always comes to me in thinking of her is "stellar"! I'm better for having known her. Kindest wishes to the family. Sincerely, Phyllis Feldman

Sally will always be remembered and valued for her gracios manner and spiritual insights. She was an invaluable help to our church in Auburn during its redesign process and served in various other leadership roles. But beyond her talents, her expression of principle coupled with love remain as an example for us all.
