Sally Story Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2017.
Sally Louise (Imel) Story was born February 11, 1964 in Tulsa, OK and went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2017. She attended Carnegie Elementary School, Nimitz Middle School, and graduated from Tulsa Memorial High School in 1982. On occasion, she was known for skipping class and going cruising around Tulsa in her most memorable red jeep. Sally went on to attend the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi for one year and pledged Delta Delta Delta. In the fall of '83, she started her illustrious career at the University of Oklahoma where she made many lifelong friends and went on to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance. Sally continued her education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where she received her Master's Degree in Business Administration 1987.

While in Dallas, Sally met her future husband on a blind date thanks to her good friend Devin. Her first date with "The Man" was at Jokers Comedy Club. Sally and David were married on December 1, 1990 at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa. Together they have two wonderful children, Abigail Christine born in 1992 in Dallas and Kyle Corbet born in 1995 in Oklahoma City. The family moved to Edmond in April of 1995. The family began attending First Presbyterian Church of Edmond in 1995 and that is still their home church.

Sally's faith was so important to her and she had such a commitment to helping others. Selected organizations that she committed her time to were: Younglife, Hotdogs for Homeless, Breakfast on Boulevard, Hope Center of Edmond, and Confirmation Class. Sally served numerous roles in the church, served as a deacon, attended Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) as well as served as a leader numerous times, and held several PTO positions. She received numerous blessings from her small groups. In 2012, Sally and 3 of her dear friends started the Edmond North Pantry to fill the food and clothing needs for students. Sally was also an active alumnae of the Oklahoma City Chapter of Delta Delta Delta and served as the Edmond DDD reference chairman. She so enjoyed her girls' Wine Times group, which later evolved to "choir practice" where she served as president for awhile.

Sally's favorite place was the sandy beaches of Destin, Florida with a club special in hand and her family under the red and white umbrella. Sally's faith never wavered even as she fought the tumor battle for the last three years. Her spirit was always upbeat.

Sally is preceded in death by her parents John Michael Imel and Patricia Ann Carney and sister Blythe Horton.
Sally is survived by her husband David; devoted children Abby of Dallas and Kyle of Norman; sisters Dixie Coffey of OKC (husband Kevin & children Nick, Maddie, & Annie), Katy Imel of Tulsa, and Blythe's children Katy & Gary Horton.

There will be a private family burial Tuesday morning. There will be a Celebration of Sally's Life at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 3rd, at the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond and a reception to follow.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

I am so sorry to hear of Sally's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you all through this most difficult time. Sally was my Tri-Delta Grand Big Sis and is so very special to me and will always hold a special place in my heart. I have wonderful memories of time spent with her and loved the rare occasion when I would run into her over the years and spend time catching up on family. She always knew how to make everyone she met feel special. So sorry she had to suffer with this horrible disease over the last few years and am thankful to our Lord she has been healed in His loving arms.

Very sad to learn of your loss. I wish that I could have known Sally; it sounds as though she was a wonderful person, like all the Imel girls. Praying for strenth, comfort, and peace for Sally's family.

Praying hard for you Storys! I'm flooded with so many Sally memories I have to share! Some highlights include when the red jeep would show up in my driveway on summer nights with Sally and Abby there to get me for a "pick-up" party or loving when it was Sally's turn for carpool home from Sequoyah middle school because that meant getting to watch 5 minutes of a movie in the back of her car on the way home! All the sleepovers, dance competitions and birthday parties over the years wouldn't have been the same without Sally's spirit in the room! Rest in peace Mrs. Story and prayers to you David, Kyle and Abby.

So sorry for your family's loss. Sally was my junior high cheer coach with Brenda Latch and was always one of the girls a few classes ahead that I admired. Whenever I ran into her in my adult years, she always wanted a full update on my life and people we knew in common. Thankful for the 3-hour lunches we enjoyed during my residence in Edmond. Sally always made people feel good and laugh. May memories of her continue to fill your hearts with love and laughter.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sally through our daughter's sorority a few years ago. She was so fun to be around and was always the life of the party. I will always remember the Mom's Weekends at OU where she introduced us to her "Club Specials"! Sally was a special person and she will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
